  2. BURNING QUESTION: HOW DID POLLUTION AFFECT PEOPLE DURING THE INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION? Guiding Questions - What was the cause of the pollution? - What types of pollution were there? - How did it affect the people?

  3. WHAT WAS THE CAUSE OF THE POLLUTION? The main cause of the pollution was the pollutants that were being releases from factories and automobiles. The factories would release pollutants and chemicals directly into the air and nearby rivers and streams. The increased use of coal and fossil fuels contributed greatly towards the severe pollution Machines inside factories spit out smoke, and some workers would come out covered in black soot..

  4. TYPES OF POLLUTION The main types of pollution were water and air pollution. Water pollution was caused by factories releasing pollutants and chemicals directly into rivers and streams. The water pollution caused people who consumed or made contact with the water to get sick or even die. The most common disease that came from water pollution is cholera. Air pollution was also caused by factories and automobiles spewing out smog and smoke that polluted the air. The air pollution would darken the cities and produced toxic smog which made it difficult to breathe.

  5. EFFECT ON THE PEOPLE The living conditions during the Industrial Revolution was very unhealthy. The smog and soot coming from the pollution was having a negative impact on people s health. The polluted air and water was causing people to get very sick or even die. The residents of growing urban centers would catch disease like cholera very easily due to the bad living conditions. Also, the machines that operated inside factories would spew out smoke, which was very unhealthy for the workers. Some workers would come out of the factories sick and covered in soot.
