  1. Aim #12: Does racism affect how you vote?

  2. 1. In which states/region did Barack Obama do significantly worse than other recent Democratic candidates like Bill Clinton or John Kerry?

  3. 2. What is the evidence that Obamas race was a factor in how badly he lost these states? Quantitative Data: Measures of values or counts that are expressed as numbers. Percentages of white voters who said they voted for McCain and against Obama because race was at least partially a factor: Louisiana: 20.5 % Kentucky: 15. 8 % West Virginia: 13.9% South Carolina: 14.7% New York: 4.6 % California: 3.3%

  4. 3. According to Nate Silver, what are the two most important factors that make voters in some states more racist than voters in others? Lower education level (only 14.5% of Arkansas kindergartners will complete a college degree by the time they are 24 University of Arkansas). Higher rural population (only 30% of rural Americans claim to have neighbors of a different race than them, compared to 80% for people who live in cities). Racism is increased by lack interaction with people of other races.
