  1. By: Chee-Ling Assignment 3: Social Media & Me

  2. Section 1 How have social media platforms changed the way we consume and understand information? There are many different types of social media examples of some social media apps would be YouTube, twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. There are many social medias that use those different types of formats to understand what you like. This is a bad thing for you and me because this would shelter us from many other problems that we might not know about. Such as when Russia attacked Ukraine, this is a good example of what I mean. If you where on social media and not seeing the news you wouldn t have known anything about it. When you see or read news on social media, do you take time to research the story further? No I personally don t take time to research because I would not care. If it started to effect me I would do more research, the research I would do would be on YouTube because I don t like reading. I would listen to the YouTube videos and look at the comments and sometimes look at the description to see if they linked there research. That is how I research.

  3. Section 2 What value do you get from online social interactions? When I go online for social interactions I would normally do this when I m bored and would like to talk to new people. This is a habit I think most people do due to Covid. This is a coping mechanism for people who are stuck inside there home and can t go outside. I personally value online social interactions a lot because in these times I am usually stuck inside my house, I could pick up a hobby but I would like to talk to people more than start a new hobby. This is why I value online social interaction so much. Describe the role of social media and social currency shaping youth culture? Social media is a resent outlet for people who get bored. Social currency is any other way for making money. These two examples shape the youth culture like never before. So many youths have ways to spend time with people around the world. It is a very powerful tool which if you don t use it with caution you can get scammed or many other bad things. Some examples of connecting with youths could be playing games, having a voice call, etc Youth culture is using these tools to get through school, talk to there loved ones and friends, pass time, and start new hobbies. These are the examples of how social media is shaping youth culture and youths alike. When you post online, do you consider how the post may be seen by others? Yes I do think how the post might effect others. I usually think of the good things of how they might effect others, I don t usually focus on the down side of it because I don t think my posts would offend anyone. The posts I make are of my art, there are things I would not post as well. The controversial things I have heard about, I would try to avoid because I would not like to be cancelled. Cancelled is a type of punishment online when people harassed you online and would do anything in there power to make you delete your account. This is why I consider what I posts and who would see these posts I would post.

  4. Section 3 Do you see any similarities between the world presented in this video and the world you live in? I do see similarities from the video and the world I live in. The similarities would be when you see a celebrity online and they get criticism for what they have said or have done. These contrives are based on there reputation, if this celebrity had a fight with another celebrity but that celebrity has a bad reputation, people will side more with the celebrity with a better reputation. This happens every day to every one, another example is when you make new friends with someone and you hear that one of your other friends have done something bad, you would want to avoid them. This is the similarities is see from the video and the world I live in. How does the main character gain and lose points? Why are these point important to her? These point would be important to her because other people would base you off those points. She would gain point by doing something other people would like and hide the things other people wouldn t like, this would also be the same thing with losing points, if people don t like what you are doing then you will lose points. This is why she values her points a lot. What values might be derived from this type of social interaction? These kinds of social interactions are ok to some level. If people take things to far and bring down people using these social interactions it is not ok. I think people should be more aware of what they are doing online, they should also be careful on how they act on social media. If you don t act accordingly then people would bring you down and it would be very hard to redeem your self. This is why when it comes to these social interactions you should be very careful on what you say and how you act. How would your social interactions change if you were a character in these videos? I would do what I would like in private so I won t get judged by people. Instead of doing the things I would like I would prevent my self in a presentable way and I would try to befriend everyone so I would gain a good reputation. This is what I would do if I was ever a character in the video.

  5. Section 4 How did you tell the difference between facts and interpretations, opinions, and judgment? Interpretations and opinions would be more exaggerated than general facts. If a person was telling facts then they would have proof to back it up, they would also be able to show where they got the fact from. If a person was to interpret some thing they would most likely not sight there sources and may lead you to a fake source. A good way to tell if it was fake is typing is this blank website fake. Google will give you a straight answer and say if it s fake or not. How did you analyze evidence from different perspectives? You can analyze different evidence by going on to different trustworthy sights and take notes on them. It would be impractical if you only use one source of information because even though the reporter of that source may not try to be biased they are. So it would be best if you go on to different sights, an example of different sights maybe be if there was a controversy with one YouTuber and another YouTuber. If you only see video of what they would have to say then that s not having different perspectives. So this is how I get my analysis from different perspectives.
