SOCIAL MEDIA AND ME By: Dante Feltrin
SECTION 01
How have social media platforms changed the way we consume and understand information? Social media platforms have changed the way we consume and understand information in several ways. Content posted to these platforms can be altered, posted without context, or just be fake in general. Therefore, we need to be very cautious with information that we get from social media.
When you see or read news on social media, do you take time to research the story further? Whenever I see news on social media, I usually take it with a grain of salt and don t research further since there is a lot of fake news circulating the internet. The only exception to this is if I see a story that piques my interest and I want to see the full story.
SECTION 02
What value do you get from online social interactions? Online social interactions have many upsides with the convenience of them being one of the most important ones for me. These online interactions can also lift my mood, help me lower my stress levels and help me become more confident in real life.
Describe the role of social media and social currency shaping youth culture? A lot of people post unreachable and unobtainable posts which can negatively impact the youth. It can set unrealistic standards for younger children which can lead to many issues.
When you post online, do you consider how the post may be seen by others? Explain I always try and be safe with what I post online. I never post anything offensive or political on any of my social media accounts. The only posts I have are just of me and my friend sitting next to a lake.
SECTION 03
Do you see any similarities between the world presented in this video and the world you live in? Yes, people care a lot about their social media accounts follows and likes in real life as well. The only difference is that in the video it is more exaggerated to get the point across. Personally, I don t care much about my social media standing.
How does the main character gain and lose points? Why are these points important to her? The characters points changes based off what people rate her. The points are important as people treat you better the higher your rating is. If you have a low rating people don t treat you as well.
What values might be derived from this type of social interaction? There would be a lot of people faking being nice just to get a good rating. I feel as if their social interactions would not be genuine but instead more of putting on a show to get a higher rating.
How would your social interactions change if you were a character in these videos? I would be cautious with what I say to others and try to be nice around people. The rating system might even change my personality or how I act and treat others. Essentially it would change me entirely as a person.
SECTION 04
How did you tell the difference between facts and interpretations, opinions, and judgements? Facts are the unbiased truth. Interpretations are how the person sees whatever is going on. Opinions and judgements are almost the same, they are basically judgements that aren t always based on facts or knowledge.
How did you analyze evidence from different perspectives? You must look at the subject from an unbiased viewpoint and try to connect all parts of the story together until it makes logical sense. If you do it correctly you will end up with the full story and it will be much easier to understand.
