Sound Matters! W.R. TomCats Presented by: Anna Burton
What is your problem of practice in implementing a blended learning environment? Goal: To create an inclusive environment for our deaf and hard of hearing students. The Why: W.R. Castle has students that require an onsite speech pathologist and sign language interpreter, we want to create an environment that gives them the opportunity to experience school the same way other students do.
How can we help our students! In order to create a more equitable learning environment for students: I intended to create an environment where my deaf and hard of hearing students can feel equal across the school building. I see every student in my building, so I intended to outfit locations that those students would be in. A sound system for the cafeteria, and lights for the gym, library, STREAM, UNITE, and special education classroom will help the student be able to see if not hear that the class has ended or that students need to stop what they are doing. I m also purchasing a sign language alphabet for each classroom so that students and teachers can communicate with each student.
Whole School Project. This is a whole school project. I've been working with our sign language entrupture and our speech pathologist to make an environment for our kids that will help them be successful. Because we are wearing masks this allows students who are hard of hearing and use mouth reading to know that something has changed and is different.
How has this changed Our School so far.... How has this change in environment impacted our school? How has this change impacted of community?
Measuring the Impact! The interaction between deaf and hard of hearing students and hearing students. Also, how the community responds to our school environment. I m also hoping that this will also increase the involvement of our deaf and hard of hearing students in their classroom and with their classmates.
Impact: It matters! Sign language
