  3. It may be known What had Timothy known? What he was likely taught was the Law of Moses he was now seeing its fulfillment in Christ John 5:39 Jesus noted this We are no longer under the LOM it was fulfilled in Christ But the principles Paul mentions here would apply to us also All Scripture

  4. The Scriptures are Holy Scripture (vs. 15) is from a Greek word ( , gramma) meaning a written document Writings were valuable and precious, but available This was a factor making the time ideal for the gospel Galatians 4:4, Ephesians 1:9-10 All Scripture

  6. The Scriptures are Holy We need to distinguish between what is holy and what is not The writings of men are NOT holy! Men, including preachers, are fallible. God s word is perfect (complete and flawless James 1:25, Psalm 19:7). 1 Corinthians 4:6, Matthew 15:9 the doctrines of man make worshipping God vain (empty) All Scripture

  7. Able to make you wise Wise unto salvation Romans 1:16-17, Ephesians 1:13 Consider the OT it leads us to Christ (Galatians 3:19, 24), John 5:39, 1 Peter 1:10-12 Romans 15:4 We have confidence in the New Testament because of the Old Testament All Scripture

  8. All scripture inspired of God Scripture here is another common Greek word ( , graph ) means writings All writings clearly not everything ever written, but in context it is all writings from God . This would include the LOM and the New Testament All Scripture

  9. All scripture inspired of God Inspired ( , theopneustos), lit. God breathed That which is uttered as if it were God Himself speaking (cf. 1 Peter 4:11) IF it is from God, it is truth (John 17:17, cf. Galatians 1:6-9) All Scripture

  10. Is profitable Profitable means useful or beneficial. We must approach God s word with the attitude that it is profitable to us. Not only does God expect us to understand His word, but also to apply it. It is designed to make us better, and if applied universally to make all men better All Scripture

  11. Is profitable Profitable for doctrine Instruction or teaching. God s word is designed for us to learn! 2 Timothy 2:15 1 Timothy 4:13, 16 The word is found 21 times in the NT, 15 of them in the letters to Timothy and Titus All Scripture

  14. Is profitable Profitable for instruction in righteousness Living right. Being righteous with God. Matthew 5:6 Titus 2:11-14 we live soberly and righteously All Scripture

  15. It can make us complete Complete not lacking anything. KJV perfect , NASB adequate 2 Peter 1:3, His divine power has given us all things that pertain to life and godliness Far too many today believe God s word is inadequate. They seek to change it or discredit it 2 Peter 1:4-11 an example of how it is adequate or complete All Scripture

  16. Thoroughly equipped Complementing the previous phrase, when we are complete we are fully equipped to do what we need to do. If we apply God s word, we will be ready for good works Matthew 5:16, 2 Corinthians 9:8, Ephesians 2:10 All Scripture
