A Second A Second- -Class State Class State 12 Watch out, brothers, so that there won t be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart that departs from the living God. 13 But encourage daily, while it is still called today, so that you is hardened by sin s deception. 14 For become companions of the Messiah if we firmly until the end the reality that we had start.
A Second A Second- -Class State Class State 15 As it is said: Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion. 16 For who heard and rebelled? Wasn t it really all who came out of Egypt under Moses? 17 And who was He provoked with for 40 years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness? 18 And who did He swear to that they would not enter His rest, if not those who disobeyed?
A Second A Second- -Class State Class State 19 So we see that they were unable to enter because of unbelief. 4:1 Therefore, while the promise to enter His rest remains, let us fear that none of you should miss it. 2 For we also have received the good news just as they did; but the message they heard did not benefit them, since they were not united with those who heard it in faith
A Second A Second- -Class State Class State 3 (for we who have believed enter the rest), in keeping with what He has said: So I swore in My anger, they will not enter My rest. And yet His works have been finished since the foundation of the world, 4 for somewhere He has spoken about the seventh day in this way: And on the seventh day God rested from all His works. 5 Again, in that passage He says , They will never enter My rest.
A Second A Second- -Class State Class State 6 Since it remains for some to enter it, and those who formerly received the good news did not enter because of disobedience, 7 again, He specifies a certain day today speaking through David after such a long time, as previously stated: Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts.
A Second A Second- -Class State Class State 8 For if Joshua had given them rest, God would not have spoken later about another day. 9 Therefore, a Sabbath rest remains for God s people. 10 For the person who has entered His rest has rested from his own works, just as God did from His. 11 Let us then make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will fall into the same pattern of disobedience.

Romans 15:8-9 Standing = God s Truth & truth Status = servant of the circumcised Purpose = Confirm promises & glorify God
A Second A Second- -Class State Class State Moses purpose was, as a servant of God, under God and His Word, to lead the Israelites to and into the promises of God. Standing = a servant of God Status = under God and His Word Purpose = lead the Israelites into the promises of God
A Second A Second- -Class State Class State Moses Jesus Appointed by the Father Faithful to the One Son over the Father s house Builder Apostle & High Priest God & Truth Servant of the Circumcised Purpose: Confirm Promises Appointed by the Father Faithful in God s house Servant in God s house (High honor & trust) House Under God & His Word Servant of God Purpose: Lead Israel into the promises of God Who is greater?
A Second A Second- -Class State Class State What is my standing? What is my state? But Christ was faithful as a Son over His household. And we are that household if we hold on to the courage and the confidence of our hope. Heb. 3:6 Of Christ s household = Standing If we hold onto the courage & confidence of our hope = State
A Second A Second- -Class State Class State What is my standing? What is my state? Therefore, since we have been declared righteous by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Also through Him, we have obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. Romans 5:1-2

Israel s standing = Favor; God s chosen people; the people of the Promises of God (Dt.14:2; 7:6; 26:18-19; Ex.19:5) Israel s state = Rejected by God for a lack of faith in God and His Word and made to roam the wilderness (Num. 14; Heb. 3:7-11)
A Second A Second- -Class State Class State The Cause of Israel s rejected state? An unbelieving heart. A lack of faith in God s Word. Step back from action. Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion. Heb. 3:3, 15
A Second A Second- -Class State Class State The Cause of Israel s rejected state? An unbelieving heart. A lack of faith in God s Word. Step back from action. And to whom did He swear that they would not enter His rest, if not those who disobeyed? So we see that they were unable to enter because of unbelief.
A Second A Second- -Class State Class State Unbelief leads to a hardened heart and a state of rejection by God. Unbelief in God is sin. Unbelief Disobedience Sin Death = No rest
A Second A Second- -Class State Class State In the Old Covenant everything had to do with a place. In the New Covenant everything has to do with a person Jesus!
A Second A Second- -Class State Class State For the Hebrew it was a matter of being in a place Canaan. For the Christian it is a matter of being in a person Christ.
A Second A Second- -Class State Class State For both the Hebrew and the Christian to enter the eternal rest is a matter of believing God s Word and mixing it with faith in action. To mix belief with faith in Christ is to come into a right state with our established standing.
A Second A Second- -Class State Class State Therefore, while the promise to enter His rest remains, let us fear that none of you should miss it. 2 For we also have received the good news just as they did; but the message they heard did not benefit them, since they were not united with those who heard it in faith 3 (for we who have believed enter the rest), Heb. 4:1-3a
A Second A Second- -Class State Class State Our promised rest is not in a day, or coming day, but in a person Jesus. "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light" (Matt. 11:28-30).
A Second A Second- -Class State Class State A Christian has already entered rest with Jesus if one believes & follow Him (standing). One s state bears upon working out our salvation! Let us then make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will fall into the same pattern of disobedience. -4:11
A Second A Second- -Class State Class State One s state, matches our standing of promised rest, when we believe, obey and mix faith with action in Christ. Is my state second-class to my standing?
