  4. Matthew 7:28-29 Matthew 8:5-10 Matthew 21:23-27 Matthew 28:16-20 Jesus Has All Authority

  5. The Importance of Respect for Authority Only way to unity Not the cause of division Not binding opinion Not legalism or law keeping Should we be law BREAKING?

  6. The Importance of Respect for Authority Only way to truly follow Scripture Acting on assumptions is not following Scripture. Doing what becomes popular is not following Scripture. Doing whatever brings in more people is not following Scripture.

  7. Respect for Authority Is Being content to do what we find in the New Testament (1 Cor. 4:1-6) Doing what we can find in NT by direct statement, example, or inescapable conclusion (John 12:46-49; 8:31; 14:15; 15:10; Phil. 4:9; Heb. 7:12-14). Acting without these is presumption, rebellion, and UN-scriptural

  8. Respect for Authority Is Looking at the entire NT not only things Jesus addressed directly (John 16:13; Acts 2:42; 1 Cor. 14:37; 2 Pet. 3:16) Using the OT for learning and admonition, but recognizing the NT as our standard of faith and practice (Rom. 15:4; 1 Tim. 1:8-11; 1 Cor. 9:21; Rom. 1;16; Col. 2:16-17)

  9. Respect for Authority Is Being willing to face criticism (1 Pet. 3:15- 16; John 15:20) Being willing to look different (Rom. 12:2) Being willing to stand against the tide of popular opinion (Matt. 7:13-14) Trusting the wisdom of God (Eph. 3:8-12; 1 Cor. 1:21-25).
