  1. Warming up and Cooling down What happens when you warm up? Your heart rate quickens. Your breathing becomes deeper and faster. Your blood pumps around the body faster, bringing oxygen to the muscles. The body temperature rises. Your muscles become more supple (flexible). Your mind becomes more focused and alert.

  2. If you dont warm up first, you will not carry out each movement correctly. This is problematic because: Your body learns to do things incorrectly; You risk hurting yourself. Warming up should consist of: Slow, gentle stretches; Circling of joints; Repetitive movements that get your heart rate up like walking or running; Movements which move the spine like roll-downs and side-bends.

  3. What happens when you cool down? Your heart rate slows down. Your breathing becomes slower. Your body temperature cools. Your muscles are cleared of waste products that causes cramping and stiffness. Cooling down should consist of: More intense stretching; A gradual slowing down of movements; Breathing; Slow, repetitive movements
