Rural Health Access Challenges- Specialty Care Maternity Care and Substance Use Disorder 70% of rural hospitals in Virginia do not have access to labor and delivery services. This produces unique challenges for OBGYN residents looking for employment in communities where they are most needed.
Rural Health Access Challenges- Specialty Care Maternity Care and Substance Use Disorder In 2021, VDH reported that accidental overdose accounted for 17.2% of pregnancy- associated mortalities. Access to mental health and substance use disorder services is key.
