PROMOTING INCLUSION FOR VOTER REGISTRATION Alex Stoner, Arianna Puckett, Keira Crowther, Sydney Morales
ENCOURAGING AMERICANS TO VOTE WEBSITE Now, more than ever, it is important to vote. Not only is it important to vote, but it s important to encourageAmerican Citizens to vote. Everyone over the age of 18 has the right to vote. Our group came up with an idea to create a web page that essentially covers all the basics: Why is voting important? When should we register to vote? What is the voting deadlines in each state? Where should we vote? What do we bring to our voting station? How do we get to our voting station? We want to design a page that is user-friendly, easy place to find answers, and aesthetically pleasing. The easier it is to find the answers to these frequently asked questions , the better chance these citizens show up to vote. NEWS AD/FLYER In order to continue our theme of inclusion, we considered how we can get this information out to people who don t have easy access to the internet. Through research, we discovered that designing a flyer and newspaper ad will continue our voting awareness initiative. We plan on offering the same information in our newspaper ad and flyer.
HOW IS THIS ABOUT INCLUSION? The main idea is to include the populace that is hindered due to a divide. Be it technological in relation or demographic in nature. Those who are on both sides of the digital divide. This inclusion would also reach out to those who are in positions where they are not able to vote due to different underlying reasons. A digital divide is what you use to describe the two sides to a populace One that has accessibility to technology such as Computers, Smart Phones, and other electronics. One that has no accessibility to technology, may rely on newspapers or other means to get information about the world around them Poverty Hearing or vision disability Feeling like their voice doesn t matter, sense of detachment from politics Overall this project focuses on including every person no matter where they come from or how they live their life.
DESIGN & LAYOUT Informative layout Easy to follow Includes illustrations of inclusive people (different genders, ages, races, etc). Possible color scheme: Modern type
RESEARCH https://www.usa.gov/voting This Official US Government website has a Voting and Elections webpage that explains how to vote, how to register, history of laws and voting, and information on who s running locally. We can use this to further our research and gain more knowledge on voting and its history. https://www.thebestcolleges.org/9- reasons-we-need-young-voters-more- than-ever/ This is one of many articles that articulate on the importance of young voters and how they make an impact on the majority vote. Since our target audience includes young adults, this and many other articles can help us understand how to reach many young potential voters.
RISKS, CHALLENGES, SOLUTIONS It s important to keep in mind the importance of inclusion, and getting a company or product out there that caters to all races, genders, social classes, and age. Some challenges we will run into: How to get our message across to all User friendly to all demographics Cater to those without technology How our campaign can be convincing/persuading
Overall the number of people who choose not to vote is close to 50% of total registered voters. The idea is to find ways to reach out to those who don t vote and encourage them to vote. It s to break the digital divide to provide means of information to those who live in a less technological age. CONCLUSION
