Hospital Planning Standards Objective: Objective: To understand the structural and functional standards for general hospital planning.
The Indian Standard for Basic Requirements for Hospital Planning is detailed in IS 12433. This standard is published in two parts, each addressing different aspects of hospital planning based on the size and type of the hospital. IS 12433-1 (1988) covers the basic requirements for planning hospitals with up to 30 beds. IS 12433-2 (2001) focuses on hospitals with up to 100 beds. These standards aim to ensure that hospitals are planned efficiently and are responsive to the health needs and priorities of the community. IS 12377 Classification and matrix for various categories of hospitals Provides a classification system for different types of hospitals Aims to standardize hospital planning and design. Classifies hospitals based on size, services, and facilities. Includes categories like primary, secondary, and tertiary care hospitals. This standard specifies classification and matrix for five categories of hospitals. It includes the classification according to the functions in alphabetical order with code number, matrix and organizational classification. Offers a matrix to help planners determine the requirements for each hospital category. Ensures consistency in hospital infrastructure and services. Ensures hospitals meet the necessary standards for patient care and safety.
