  1. English I can introduce a dangerous dilemma for Indiana to overcome on his quest.

  2. Today, we will continue writing our adventure story. Remember, most of you have already written the introduction in your learning books at school. If you haven t been at school, then your job is to begin writing your stories, starting with your introduction. Take a look at the WAGOLL (what a good one looks like) on the website. You can then carry on with the next part of your plan by looking at this powerpoint. Your plans were created on Tuesday/Wednesday. On Thursday, we practised describing scenes we could encounter in our adventure stories. You need to remember all your story writing techniques and skills we have worked on this year. Remember ISPACE and the rules for direct and reported speech.

  3. Today, you will have Indiana meet his first problem. How does he escape the danger? On Monday Monday, he will have to face further problems in different parts of his journey. Tuesday Tuesday s writing will continue with the most difficult and final challenge which leads to Indiana gaining possession of the coveted artefact (the most wanted Maya treasure).

  4. By Wednesday Wednesday, you will bring the story to an end. Thursday Thursday s writing session will involve you reading through your story and using your editing skills to improve it.

  5. On the next few slides, are some examples of sentence ideas which may help you write about Indiana s challenges. They followed the long, twisting path using light from their burning torch to light their way. Squeezing through the hole that had been carved out of the rocky wall, they descended a treacherous path into a huge cavern. Following the smoky light of the torch, they moved cautiously through the tunnel, stopping to search the niches in the wall. Suddenly to their left, they glimpsed a shelf of grinning skulls. They edged down the glistening, stone steps slipping and sliding on the mossy covering. Suddenly, millions of bats, like a black plume of smoke, fluttered out from every corner and the passage rang with the echoes of their screams.

  6. Indiana entered the underground cavern of the sacred cenote. Aqua- blue, crystal-clear water greeted him and stalagmites stood guard. The map clearly showed Indiana that he needed to dive down into the deepest depths of the underground lake to retrieve an ancient key; this was the key that would unlock the box which securely held the golden statue. He had dived into an eerie world; an underwater world of craggy pillars of rock. Suddenly, he was the victim of a whirlpool and he felt himself being sucked down deeper and deeper into the bottomless lake. Piranhas surrounded him in every direction! Trudging through the jungle, he felt the eyes of a predator fix upon him: a jaguar hidden behind the lush foliage waited patiently before claiming its next victim. He struggled. (Remember the impact short sentences can have.) He felt the warm breath of an enemy behind him. (This creates tension as the reader wants to know who the enemy is and what might happen next.)

  7. The possibilities of what you write are endless. Just The possibilities of what you write are endless. Just remember to refer to your plan and you must be able remember to refer to your plan and you must be able to picture your story when you close your eyes. If you to picture your story when you close your eyes. If you can t see your story, you can t write your story. can t see your story, you can t write your story.
