The nature of belonging It is a sense of belonging, responsibility, and kinship towards the land. The relationship between the indigenous people and their land is fundamental to their identity and sense of belonging. Indigenous theatre explores themes of connection to the land and the importance of community. Indigenous theatre raises awareness of indigenous perspective on environmental issues and promote understanding of indigenous culture.
Themes of indigenous theatre: Connection /belonging to the land. The importance of Community . Challenge to dominant narratives. Environment as a sacred place.
Indigenous people in the Arctic The indigenous people in the general: are the distinct social and cultural groups that share collective ancestral ties to the land and natural resources where they live in.
The Degradation on the Arctic: Impacts of Environmental Indigenous people have the least contribution to global warming and the most negatively affected. In Alaska, the Inupiat people are facing the challenge of sea ice melt. In Canada, the Inuit people are facing the challenge of permafrost thaw. In Russia, the Nenets people are facing the challenge of pollution caused by oil and gas extraction.
Eco-drama Eco-theatre is a movement of environmental activists their aim is to raise collective ecological awareness. Eco-drama is concerned in discussing the relationship between human beings environment. Eco-drama performs themes of environmental justice and environmental degradation. Eco-drama just society can be achieved by reshaping people s values and perspectives towards nature through art and imagining a sustainable future. Eco-theatre assumes that the environmental crisis is a collective global reality, not an isolated issue. Indigenous drama explores the relationship between humans and the environment and how this relationship is ruined by nonindigenous individuals that represented in colonialism and exploitation.
How ecological home can be represented in indigenous theatre: Through the use of ecological knowledge in the plays story and characters about indigenous culture . Through the use of traditional indigenous costumes. Through the use of indigenous language in the play. In indigenous theatre, ecological home is represented through the use of natural elements such as water, land, and animals as an essential characters in the play. And through the strong bond to their land.
Sila by Chantal Bilodeau Sila means the climate, the environment, and the naturalworld. Sila is a spiritual force that connects all living things. Sila is depicted as a woman or grandmother and the responsible for the balance of nature.
Chantal Bilodeaus Sila : The play is set in Canada. The play consists of two families. human family Veronica, and Samuel. Nonhuman family represented by mother polar bear and her daughter. The play has a fateful ending such as the death of Samuel and the death of polar bear. represented by Leanna,
Climate change has made all humanity more vulnerable to its impacts especially for indigenous inhabitants. By acknowledging this vulnerability to climate change, humans can develop more compassionate, sustainable, and just society. The dominant culture narratives are no longer sustainable in the face of ecological crisis. Humans need to rethink their position in order to create more just and sustainable society for all entities. Art especially theatre is a powerful tool for generating awareness of ecological issues and imagining new ways of living in harmony with the natural world.
