Individual Differences : Meaning, Types, Factors and its implications for Organizing Educational Programs Mohd Ali Department of Education For: B.A. Education, Sem III Paper 2 (Child Development) Unit-I
Individual Differences Whatever lies uncountable number of things around us in the form of Living and Non-living differ from each other in so many aspects . These differences and variations among human being quite distinctly differ in so many ways and makes us unique from each others.
Cont. Definition: Individual Difference is stand for those differences which in their totality, distinguish one individual from another and make them unique. (Carter V. Good) Varieties / Types of Individual Differences: 1. Physical Differences (Sex, Body, Eyes, Hair, Skin , Appearance etc.) 2. Mental Differences ( Intelligence , Reasoning, Thinking, Imagination, attention etc.) 3. Emotional Differences (Love , Affection, Amusement etc.)
Cont.. 4. Social Differences (Social behavior, Social situation , Socio- economic status , Social Mobility, Social Stratification, Socialization etc.) 5. Determinants / factors affecting Individual Differences: Heredity: Traits inherited by our ancestors. (Sex, Physical costitution, Intelligence etc.) Environment: An Environment is everything which affect an individual except his genes . (all External factors viz. Sociological, Cultural, Psychological etc.)

Implications For Organizing Educational Programme: Streaming or grouping of students and educate them accordingly. Curriculum Planning Guidance and Counselling Programs (Educational, Vocational, Health, Social, Geriatric , Stress management, Group etc.) Team Teaching Organizing workshops and seminars Health Awareness Programs Co-curricular Activities (Drama, Music, Arts, Sports , Essay & Debate etc., according to their interest.)
Cont. Programs for Method of Teaching as per individual potentialities. Specialized Programs or method of individualized instruction : Dalton Plan, Project Method, Programmed Instruction, Montessori Method, Story telling Methods etc. Mental health day Programs for special children Programs of National/International days : Mental Health day, Suicide prevention day, AIDS day, Balika divas etc. Competitive Programs for Gifted, Creative @ Backward childrens and motivate / reinforce them accordingly.
Cont Orientation Programs for selection of appropriate subject as per individual interest. Various scholarships Programs: DST's Scholarship Scheme for Women Post-matric Scholarships for SC /ST students I. II. III. Rajiv Gandhi national fellowship for SC IV.
