  9. PhD Programme Prof. Dr Irene van Staveren Professor of Pluralist Development Economics At ISS there is not a very strict hierarchy between PhD researchers and the academic staff. You work on equal basis with us, present your work in seminars, co-author papers, and are involved in various advisory projects. PhD researchers form a close community and are really of added value to ISS based on their previous work experiences, often in developing countries, and very diverse educational histories.
