What is the role of the Welcome Center? Enroll international students Screen potential ELL students Enter enrollment and screening information into ASPEN Provide information about transportation Provide assistance in completing the application for free and reduced lunch Provide assistance in making appointments for immunizations/physicals Notify SPED regarding students with an IEP Review KCS policy regarding attendance and bullying, provide school calendar and community resources
What is the role of the school? Inform non-English speaking families of the Welcome Center and provide them with the brochure pointing out the address and phone number. Set up the student s CR Schedule classes; call and inform the parent WHEN the student can begin school For students with medical alerts/allergies: the school nurse will input the info into ASPEN Welcome and orient the student to your school by providing school specific information such as Schedules Extracurricular Activities Academies Dress Code specific to your school Technology Release (1-1) Grading / Behavior Expectations Pre/post school procedures Location of bus pick up/drop off
What is the role of the ELL teacher? Send home WIDA Screener letter Place green folder in secured file and update as required Place purple ELL folder in student s CR and update as required Set an individualized learning goal for the EL based on ELP and share with content teachers Notify content teachers of EL s ELP level and appropriate accommodations Provide support for content teacher
