Uber / OU Learning as a Benefit programme Incentive Programme for their UK Preferential Drivers Provision of free higher education Uber pay all tuition costs Driver can pass this credit onto a family member Launched in January 2020, running as pilot for 2 years Currently over 800 students on programme TMA scores higher for this cohort than standard OU student Now expanded out to UberEats couriers (2021) Represents an investment of 4-5M for the company Employer Programmes June 2021

Uber Learner profiles Offer to over 25,000 drivers 90% male, 88% primarily in their 30 s and 40s 62% have a further qualification beyond secondary, 30% have a degree Typically the driver is the primary wage earner within household 75% are first generation migrants to the UK Uber demographics strongly align to OU social remit Employer Programmes June 2021

Open Door to Success Working with Job Centres Plus Curation of free OpenLearn courses aimed at Job Seekers and other Universal Credit claimants Upskilling Recognition for existing skillsets Certification and Digital Badging Successfully piloted at single JCP, then rolled out nationally to 750 JCP offices during pandemic. OU volunteers brough personality and helped adoption. Curation expanded to include wider skills for life, functional skills driven by learner needs. Now expanding social programme to target specific sectors young people but interest in other disadvantaged groups moving forward. Employer Programmes June 2021
