Lighthouse - LSTM Health and Education partnership Debriefing Susan Reilly and Ralf Weigel 18th- 22nd June 2012
AIM To provide innovative and enhanced CPD for the health sector in Malawi
Objective 1: To build capacity for CPD at LH and peripheral Health Centres Adopt Professional certificate for supporting learning to MW&LH requirements to train facilitators Develop 2 professional diploma courses consisting of a series of CPD eligible activities Build IT infrastructure to support e-learning at LH and establish formal links for CPD with KCH computer lab Develop a model for reaching peripheral health centre staff for CPD Identify means to motivate HCW to attend Establish administrative support for registration, accommodation etc at LH Organise a visit at LSTM to understand L+T management systems of QA etc. Develop LH capacity building strategic plan (Vision 2020) Stakeholder workshop
Objective 2: To improve use of technology in CPD activities Develop a basic PC skills training course, targeting especially nurses with very limited experience Incorporate use of technology in CPD courses and professional diplomas
Objective 3: To develop a marketing plan of LH/LSTM CPD activities Plan for advertisement and dissemination Conduct a PEST (political, economical, social, technology) analysis to develop partnership between LH and LSTM and other partners beyond Medium PIP finding
Objective 4: To establish partnerships nationally and internationally to support LSTM- LH educational link site visit to an established training centre explore collaborations with Heidelberg s advanced HIV course, MSF HIV course; WHO TDR and identify overlap and synergies
Blantyre visit Liverpool Malawi Welcome Trust Met Rob Heyderman (Director) Tour new training facilities- 1.5 Million GBP building Already run CPD for nurses and doctors Possiblility of running CPD at 2 sites may strenghten proposal
Next steps Lighthouse apply to Medical and nursing and Midwifes council to become a CPD site Lighthouse to introduce partnership to MoH and KCH Hospital director Paola to complete needs assessment Susan/Ralf/Dan/Helen to circulate drafts of MoU by end of July Report for THET Start up funding by mid August THET Medium Paired institutional Partnership Grant (Medium PIP) by end August 2012
