NSW Department of Education What is my Idea Hypotheses iTest Teams are to clearly define and write down their idea / hypotheses We need to do this first so then we can determine how we test our idea. 3
NSW Department of Education What is a Hypothesis or Idea ? So that it can be tested A hypothesis is a suggested solution for an unexplained occurrence that does not fit into current accepted scientific theory. The basic idea of a hypothesis is that there is no pre-determined outcome Examples: If I eat more vegetables I will lose weight faster Working parents don t have time to prepare dinner for their kids but want to provide them If i brush my teeth every day I will not get holes My paper plane will fly further with thicker paper
NSW Department of Education Student s Turn Complete and finalise your Hypotheses Teacher to assist small groups in completing their Hypotheses. The hypotheses must be completed to set a start point for testing. Students to complete Worksheet what do we need to test for - part 1 What is our Hypothesis?
NSW Department of Education Next Stage Now that we have determined our Hypothesis we can start to look at ways to see if our idea will be successful - do people want/ need our idea and how will it benefit them
NSW Department of Education Types of Testing Brainstorm ideas and may include: Surveys - Electronic or paper Face to Face or telephone interviews Desktop research (looking for data from ABS Statistics, competitors etc Requesting information (gathering sample costs, sourcing materials)
NSW Department of Education Before we decide on the test Consider the following 1. - 1. - Find the right audience look back at your character profile (who is our target audience?) Don t ask them if they want your idea Your survey or questionnaire needs to start with establishing the problem (remember you might have the solution) Do they already have a solution? Establish if there already is a solution? or can you use your entrepreneurial ideas to make it better Ask questions that will make your idea move forward. Identify the problem, identify ways that could fix the problem, how much would they spend on a solution 1. - 1. -
