  1. Integrating the GenAI tool into class activities Shan Qiao Department of Health Promotion Education and Behavior AI teaching fellow 2/21/2025

  2. Students: 4 Class activities: role-plays and discussions for various themes Assignments: HIV-related stigma (30 points) HIV-related disclosure (30 points) Missed opportunities (for HIV prevention and HIV testing)(30 points) HPEB684 HIV/STI prevention A short reflection essay (10 points)

  3. Objectives: Advance the understanding of HIV-related stigma in various scenarios. Practice how to use AI tools effectively. Engage in real-world situations to learn and exercise communication skills in clinical settings. Procedure: AI-assisted script development based on 4 scenarios Role-play based on the scripts Discussions Revision of the scripts by students Checklist: A complete script for your role-play with a record of all the prompts you used (20 points); Role-play in the class or play a video in the class (10 points) HPEB684 HIV/STI prevention

  4. Scenario 2: Gossip in the Workplace Setting: A break room in a community health center. Characters: Two healthcare workers (Sam and Taylor) and a third colleague (Jordan). Situation:Sam and Taylor are gossiping about a patient they recently treated who is living with HIV, sharing confidential details in a judgmental way. Jordan overhears and is uncomfortable, knowing it is unethical and violates patient confidentiality. Objective: To illustrate how stigma and gossip can undermine trust in healthcare settings and violate patient rights. HIV-related stigma

  5. The research activities are cool and GenAI made it possible. Prompt is not an issue, GenAI understands and develops what they want. They have learned something new through the scripts. Some scripts do not sound like actual people s dialogues. How to use GenAI effectively? Students feedback (Process evaluation)

  6. I thoroughly enjoyed the group role play assignments and using AI to complete them. Prior to this course, I feel like AI has a negative connotation in the school environment, as many professors prohibit its use; it is thought of as cheating. However, this assignment definitely changed my opinion on AI and how it can be used. Rather than completing full assignments, AI can make outlines, check grammar, or provide suggestions for assignments like this one, where Chat GPT provided our scripts. Students feedback (Final evaluation)

  7. Students feedback (Final evaluation) As far as the content of the Role Plays and the objectives go, I found them very informative. I liked participating in a different format of learning and being able to place myself in someone else's shoes; a medical professional, a person living with HIV, or a loved one of a PLWH. It allowed me to experience emotions and engage in conversations from a new perspective, which enhanced my overall understanding of the topic for each Role Play.

  8. Students have used AI for following tasks: Chatbots: Simplify complex information, making it easier to understand. AI in Literature Review: identify literature and summarize papers. Students feedback (graduate students) Coding Assistance: code suggestions and debugging help for software like R and Python, enhance practical coding skills. Improve academic writing: check grammar, suggest style enhancements, and ensure clarity. A concern I have with the use of AI in education is understanding how students can be taught to use AI responsibly. The use of AI in education makes me question how it would affect things like academic integrity and honesty. Another concern that I have with the use of AI in education is its susceptibility for algorithmic bias. Because AI in education is new, graduate students and researchers have not received training on how to critically assess the quality and appropriateness AI generated answers and conclusions.
