Problem to solve Difficulties understanding the new technological ways of education. This creates a disconnect between the educators and parents. End result is that students are not able to get the best out of school support that is needed for their success.
Many districts have put in place a district wide support center that allows parents to attend meetings and workshops. Attempts to fix the Problem These workshops are beneficial as parents and guardians can have access to information that will possibly better the support of their children.
The children were not allowed in workshops. Reasons for the Failed Attempts The parents would then need to find childcare. The meetings were held immediately after school. Many parents were unable to attend due to the time, as they would have to request time off, of work in order to attend.
By teaming up with the Northern Westchester Boces, schools in northern westchester, we will be able to provide workshops for parents who were not fluent in english. In the recent years there has been an increase in people from Latin America, Eastern Europe and the Middle East. This program will have different sections offered in many different languages which will benefit all parents and guardians. Reasoning For New Solution
NEW PLAN The School Districts along with Boces will team up with community organizations whom will provide free workshops and programs to all parents and guardians. These Workshops and programs will be provided free of charge. The hours of the workshops will vary allowing participants to attend without having to take time off of their work schedule. Free child care will be provided in order to ensure that the participants are taking full advantage of the resources available.
NEW PLAN CONT. Workshops will consist of: Understanding Google classroom/ Parent portals Education apps to improve learning at home. Stress free ways to help your child with homework. OTHERS: Managing finances. Basic nutrition. Others. All workshops will be run by professionals who are held to a high standard and most importantly, no information will be reported regarding legal status.
Why is the New Idea Better Participants will have child care. Participants will have the options of learning in their native language. The information provided is coming from professionals who are within their community.
Beneficiaries Community members who have language barriers, which do not allow them to communicate with the teachers. People who have financial issues and are unable to pay for help. People who are afraid to speak about their situation.
Resources needed Community volunteers who are willing to donate time and information in order to help the participants. Set up a website with information about the site that also will have a donation button that will allow people to choose the amount they wish to donate and create a sustainer program. Financial assistance in order to provide things such as food and beverages and writing utensils. Childcare workers who will stay with children while the parents are in the workshops.
Benefit for the community and the user This plan will allow the users the opportunity to educate themselves and understand how to properly fill out documents that is needed in order to assist their immigration status. Latino community in Peeksill are going to feel empowered and confident about the knowledge that is going to be provided.
