What is Middle School Really Like? Typical Day Classes PE Class Lunch Clubs and Activities
Middle School Schedule 6 Class Periods Every Day English all year Math all year Science all year History one semester PE one semester Health one semester Elective Choices 1 year-long class and a semester class OR 3 semester classes Passing time = 4 minutes
Sample Schedule Period 1. History / Health 2. Math Lunch 3. Science 4. PE / Elective 5. English 6. Elective / Elective All classes are 55 minutes. A bell signals the beginning and end of each class. 4 minutes of passing time in between classes.
ENGLISH AND MATH CLASSES English (ELA) English 6 Standard English Class standards. (Students in this course will skip the 6th grade curriculum.) Honors English 6 Advanced class that follows 7th grade Math Math 6 Standard Math Class Accelerated Math 6 Advanced class. already completed Accelerated Math 6. Accelerated Math 7 Advanced class for students that have You should consider an advanced pathway if you are self-motivated, enjoy learning and want to challenge yourself.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION Physical Education Foundation 6 One semester. Activities include: soccer, pickleball, basketball, fitness and circuit training, invasion games, track and field, volleyball, rhythm/dance, Wamba ball/cricket and ultimate frisbee/frisbee golf. Athletic Clothing: T-shirt or sweatshirt Shorts, sweats or yoga pants Tennis or athletic shoes (no sandals or crocs)
MUSIC AND PERFORMING ARTS ELECTIVE OPTIONS Choir 1 - Beginning choir. No prior singing experience is needed. Learn to use your voice, read music, sing independently and as a group. Band 1 - Beginning band. Learn to play an instrument and learn to read music. Students are expected to practice their instrument daily. Band 2 - Students should have a minimum of 1 year of band experience and know how to read music. Students will continue to practice independent skills as well as playing with a group. Prelude Orchestra - Beginning orchestra. Learn to play the viola, violin, cello and string bass. No experience needed. Intermezzo Orchestra Students should have a minimum of 1 year orchestra experience and know how to read music. *All classes are year-long.
VISUAL ARTS, STEM AND PE ELECTIVE OPTIONS Art 6 - Students will learn about art through a variety of mediums including drawing, painting clay and modeling. Exploring Robotics- Students will use coding and engineering to think critically, develop solutions to problems, test solutions, collect and interpret data, and demonstrate an understanding of science processes. Integrated Technology 1 This class introduces students to various areas of technology. Examples include; digital literacy skills, keyboarding, 3D modeling, coding and animation. Lifetime Individual Sports and Fitness This class is designed for students that want to improve their physical fitness. Activities include: resistance and strength training, muscular strength, cardiorespiratory and flexibility. Individual sports: bowling, archery, badminton, tennis, track and field, yoga, circuit training and more. *All classes are one semester.
Lunch Lunch is 40 minutes 20 minutes in the cafeteria 20 minutes outside Variety of lunch choices!

Additional Support YMCA programs Lunch Support with Teachers Clubs change each year. Students (YOU) can always start a new club!
