  1. DAVE COOKS A TURKEY

  2. TITLE The title Dave Cooks a Turkey gives readers insight to what the story may be about. By looking at the title I believe that the story is about a man named Dave who cooks a turkey possibly for Christmas or thanksgiving.

  3. The setting of the story was: Dave and Morley s house, the hotel and the grocery store. The atmosphere was lighthearted and humorous. SETTING The tone was humorous.

  4. PLOT Morley was exhausted from doing all the housework and chores, she missed having time to herself. Dave felt bad and asked Morley what he could do to help, and Morley gave him the job of cooking the Christmas turkey.

  5. Morley joined a neighbourhood club and began to hang out with her friends again and have some more spare time. Morley felt overwhelmed with work she had to do and wanted Dave to help her. Dave offered to do something and Morley put him in charge of cooking the Christmas turkey. INTRODUCTION

  6. INITIATING INCIDENT Morley joins the neighbourhood club and missed having time to herself and spending time with her friends.

  7. Dave is given the task to cooks the Christmas turkey, however he forgets to buy the turkey until the day before Christmas. Dave didn t know how to use the oven to cook the turkey Dave went to the hotel and asked the kitchen to cook it for him RISING ACTION Dave ran into friends Jim and his mother who questioned why he had a turkey in a hotel lobby

  8. Dave finally got the turkey cooked and returned home. He entered the house and realized that the house did not smell like a turkey was cooked, so he smeared gravy over the lamps to replicate the scent. CLIMAX

  9. FALLING ACTION When Morley arrived home with friends, Jim and his mother. When Jim sat down gravy started to drip from the lightbulbs right onto Jim s forehead and Dave began to panic

  10. Dave felt guilty and told Morley everything that happened. CONCLUSION

  11. CHARACTERS The main character of the story is Dave, I believe he is both the protagonist and Antagonist. Dave was the leading character and reached his goal in the end however he is also the one who caused the conflicts in the beginning. Dave was a dynamic character because he learned that he should help out his wife at the end of the story and changed his views. Some minor characters were: Morley, who was static Carl, who was flat Greta, who was flat

IRONY Situational irony-We excpected Dave to cook a turkey, from the title, however Dave did not cook a turkey in the story Dave is given the task to cooks the Christmas turkey, however he forgets to buy the turkey until the day before Christmas. Verbal Irony- just checking in with my chick , Dave was being sarcastic

  13. FORESHADOWING Morley gives Dave the task of cooking the turkey however she questions if he is able to do it. Dave says that he can handle it, this gives readers the anticipation that Dave may have some struggles in his mission to cook the Christmas turkey.

  14. The genre of the story is an Escape, the story was humorous and amusing and it was easy to recognize the characters. GENRE

  15. SYMBOL The turkey represents Morley and Dave s trust. Morley s neighbourhood club represents Morley s freedom and time to herself. The scotch Dave drinks periodically through the story represents his stress.

  16. MORAL In the beginning of the story Dave does not help Morley out and leaves her to do all the family tasks, however he later realizes how hard she works and that the right thing to do is to help her as much as he can.

  17. THEME The theme of this story is that no obstacle is impossible, Dave crosses many different road blocks however he never gives up and powers through. Another theme is that you should always help others when you can.
