  3. Major Findings to Date 30% of all local districts have NO school librarians (46 states & DC, 20-21). Whole districts not counting other no-librarian schools. Not all about funding. Since 09-10, nationwide, # librarians down while #s administrators & inst. coordinators up & teachers static. Districts $$$ most & least per pupil > likely librarian/school & < likely NO librarians. At least 7.5M students in districts with NO librarians ( 18-19). libslide.org - @lib_SLIDE - #lib_SLIDE libslide.org - @lib_SLIDE - #lib_SLIDE

  4. More Major Findings Equity findings ( 18-19) Full-time librarians less likely & no librarians more likely in districts w/ smaller enrollments & in rural areas. Likewise for districts w/ Higher % of students in poverty majorities of students non-white or Hispanic more English Language Learners libslide.org - @lib_SLIDE - #lib_SLIDE

  5. More Major Findings Librarian employment better in states with: school librarian mandates (enforced or not). more institutions preparing school librarians. Almost of NO-librarian districts have libraries run by support staff. Once cut, only 1 / 10 librarian positions reinstated ( 15-16 vs. 18-19). libslide.org - @lib_SLIDE - #lib_SLIDE

  6. Data Issues NCES staffing data in FTEs but based on outdated definitions, no reference to state certification. Issues affecting some states data: Historical consistency issues Inconsistencies betw. data sent to NCES & other state sources Missing data No replacement of federal school library survey last done in 2012 a decade ago. No other sources of universe or sample data. libslide.org - @lib_SLIDE - #lib_SLIDE
