  2. Im Dr Ivan Berger I m a dentist I m a special kind of doctor that treats your teeth and gums I treated young and old for 35 years and now retired I now want to share with students just like you why I wanted to become a dentist. I ll share with you why it s been an amazing profession

  3. What it Takes to be A Dentist Now let me tell you what it takes to be a dentist? First, you must always study very hard and be a good student But, as my Wife always tells our grown Grandchildren, also have fun You must graduate from high school Next must graduate from college- 4 years Finally, you are ready to go to dental school for another 4 years In dental school you ll study lots of science and how to treat patient with teeth problems

  4. What are the great parts and some hard parts of being a Dentist? First the great parts Make beautiful smiles Improve health of people by improving how they can now chew and swallowing food. You learn this by: fixing teeth that are chipped or broken (these broken teeth are called cavities ) Replacing missing teeth Straighten out crooked teeth Teaching people how to brush their teeth It s great to be your own boss You can decide if you want work full or only part time as you like You can make a very comfortable life during treating patients and when you retire

Some of The Hard Parts of being a Dentist You must learn how to fix grumpy patient s teeth who don t like going to the dentist Sometimes you ll have dental emergencies at evenings or weekends Just as in any sports, as the leader, teamwork is important when working with your dental team of assistants You ll have to learn how to manage your practice, dental team and patients and enjoy your social life

  6. What is it Like in the Day of a Dentist? Your will find your day will always be very busy You will learn how adjust your scheduled day treating scheduled patients and treating unexpected patients with dental emergency problems Take x-rays of broken teeth that need to be fixed See new patients and talk to them on different ways how you repair their teeth During the day you will use different types of filling materials to repair cavities, make new crowns for teeth, replace missing teeth Solve dental problems of patients with toothache emergencies Make young children and adults happy and enjoy going to the dentist

Why I Love Being a Dentist It s an amazing career I love working with my hands as well solving tooth problems I love working one-on-one with adults and children I love making new and beautiful smiles I love improving people to be able chew and eat all types of food I love being my own boss I love building a dental helper s team I have had a very comfortable life that has allowed me after retirement to volunteer to speak to students like you why dentistry is a great career

  8. Dentistry Has Now Become a Great profession for Women Dentistry has now become a great professional opportunity for young women. More than 50% of new dental students are young women. Besides owning your own dental practice, many women dentists are now leaders in dental science research or went on to become professors at dental schools. I want to encourage you young Men and Ladies at Haley T school join with me in becoming dentists- We Need You All!
