  1. 1 Historical Simplicity 1 - Commitment to literal interpretation of the Bible. (God uses Normal Human Language ) 2 - Way to grapple with progressive revelation . (God works with people when/where they are) 3 - There is a prophesied future in God s plan for historical Jews distinct from the Church. (Jeremiah 30-31; see 31:35-37)

  2. 3 When the plain sense of Scripture makes common sense, seek no other sense, lest it result in nonsense.

  3. 4 The most significant problem with Covenant Theology s non-literal approach to the Bible is that it effectively turns God s promises to OT Israel into broken promises. If God doesn t keep His clear promises to OT Israel, why should we expect Him to keep His promises to NT believers (John 14:2,3)? Rom 3:4Let God be true, but every man a liar.

  4. 7 On the topic of WORSHIP (when & why), the straightforward reading of the Bible reveals a difference between OT Israel (7th Day of Creation - Saturday) and the NT Church (1st Day of Resurrection - Sunday).

  5. 7 On the topic of LEADERS & ORGANIZATION, the straightforward reading of the Bible reveals a difference between OT Israel (Theocratic Kingdom of Abraham s descendants led by Prophets, Priests, Kings) and the NT Church (Body of Jesus Followers comprised of Saints, Servants, Shepherds).

  6. 7 On the topic of LOCATION, the straightforward reading of the Bible reveals a difference between OT Israel (promised a land with a capital and a King) and the NT Church (called to render to Caesar, but to prioritize a heavenly citizenship).

  7. 5 Some thoughts on Antisemitism Gen 3:15 - Enmity promised Gen 12:3 - Bless those who bless, curse those who curse Exodus 1:15,16 - Killing Jewish baby boys in Egypt Esther 3:8,9 - Genocide proposed by Haman in Babylon Rev 12:1-6 - Murderous designs of the devil Criticizing Israel is OK; Denying Israel s right to exist isn t! Marching for peace in Gaza is OK; Calling for death of Jews isn t! Our world ripe for Time of Jacob s Trouble (Jer 30:3-7).

  8. 7 On the topic of OUTWARD IDENTIFICATION, the straightforward reading of the Bible reveals a difference between OT Israel (marked by circumcision of the flesh after physical birth) and the NT Church (marked by circumcision of the heart and baptism by immersion after the new birth).

  9. 7 On the topic of MESSIAH/CHRIST S COMING, the straightforward reading of the Bible reveals a difference between OT Israel (coming down to set-up His Kingdom) and the NT Church (taking up into His Presence).

  10. I. Understanding the RAPTURE - 3 Key Passages John 14:1-3 - Jesus says words that comfort and give a sense of confident anticipation. I Cor 15:51-54 - Paul speaks about a mystery where all will be changed in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. The dead will be raised imperishable, and the living will be transformed. I Thess 4:13-18 - The Lord will descend from heaven and the dead in Christ will rise first. Then, those who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air.

  11. The coming of Christ at the rapture is imminent, in the sense of an any moment coming. The coming of Christ at the rapture is literal and visible. Rev 1:7 states Every eye shall see Him. The coming of Christ at the rapture is for all church saints, deceased or living. 1 Thess 4:14,17 and 1 Cor 15:51 record the order of this great event. This coming of Christ is premillennial, that is, before Christ returns to fight the battle of Armageddon and set up the 1,000-year kingdom, and judge unbelievers.

  12. 13 1. The rise of the Antichrist. After the church is taken out of the way (II Thess 2:7,8), a satanically empowered man will gain worldwide control with promises of peace (Dan 9:27; Rev 13:1). He will be aided by another man, called the false prophet, who heads up a religious system that requires worship of the Antichrist (Rev 19:20).

  13. 13 2. The tribulation. 7 years when God s judgment is poured out on sinful humanity (Rev 6-16). Antichrist s rise to power is associated with this time period. During the tribulation on earth, the Church will be in heaven. It is thought that at this time the Judgment Seat of Christ and Marriage Supper of the Lamb will occur in heaven (II Cor 5:10; Rev 19:6-10).

  14. 13 A. Biblical Descriptions of the Tribulation Time of Jacob s Trouble (Jer 30:7) 70th Week (heptad) of Daniel (Dan 9:27) Time/Day of Trouble (Dan 12:1; Zeph 1:15) Wrath (I Thess 5:9; Rev 11:18) Wrath to Come (I Thess 1:10) Wrath of God (Rev 14:10,19; 15:1; 16:1) Hour of Temptation/Trial (Rev 3:10) The Tribulation (Matt 24:29) Great Tribulation (Matt 24:21; Rev 2:22; 7:14)

  15. 13 B. Purposes for the Tribulation 1. Make an end of wickedness and wicked ones (Isa 13:9; 24:19-23 - like Noah s time Mt 24:37) 2. Bring a worldwide revival (Rev 7:3,4; 14:6,7) 3. Break the power of the holy people (Dan 12:5-7; Rom 11:23-29)

  16. 13 3. The abomination of desolation. At the midway point of the seven-year tribulation, the Antichrist breaks his covenant with Israel and shows his true colors. The Jews are scattered, and many of them turn to the Lord, realizing that Jesus is their Savior. A great persecution breaks out against all those who believe in Christ (Dan 12:11; Mark 13:14; Rev 12:17).

  17. 13 4. The Battle of Armageddon. At the end of the tribulation, Jesus returns with the armies of heaven (Rev 16:13-16). He saves Jerusalem from annihilation and defeats the armies of the nations fighting under the banner of the Antichrist (Rev 19:11-21). The Antichrist and the false prophet are captured and thrown alive into the lake of fire (Rev 19:20).

  18. 13 5. The judgment of the nations. Christ will judge the survivors of the tribulation, separating the righteous from the wicked as sheep and goats (Matt 25:31,32). (It is thought that at this time the Old Testament and Tribulation saints will be raised from the dead Dan 12:1,2,12,13; Rev 20:4) The righteous will enter the Millennial Kingdom; the wicked will be cast into hell (Hades, Gehenna).

  19. 13 6. Binding of Satan. Satan will be bound and held in a bottomless pit for the next 1,000 years (Rev 20:1-3). 7. The Millennial Kingdom. Jesus Himself will rule the world, and Jerusalem will be the capital. This will be a 1,000-year period of peace and prosperity on earth (Isa 60-62; Rev 20). Memorial sacrifices will be offered in a rebuilt temple in Jerusalem (Ezek 40-48).

  20. 13 8. The last battle. At the end of the 1,000 years, Satan will be released from his prison for a short time. He will deceive the nations once again, and there will be a rebellion against the Lord that will be quickly defeated (Rev 20:7-10). Satan will be cast into the lake of fire, never to reappear.

  21. 13 9. The Great White Throne Judgment. All those in hell (Hades, Gehenna) will be brought forth, and all the wicked from all eras of history will be resurrected to stand before God in a final judgment & sentencing, joining Satan in the place of eternal separation from God (Rev 20:11-15), the Lake of Fire.

  22. 13 10. The new creation. God completely remakes the heavens and the earth. It is at this time that God wipes away all tears and there will be no more pain, death, or sorrow. The New Jerusalem descends from heaven and the children of God will enjoy eternity with Him (Rev 21-22).
