  1. Updates on Texas Demographic Trends and the On-going Research at TDC Commission on Community College Finance Working Group March 7, 2021

Highlights on Texas Demographic Trends from the 2020 Census With 3,999,944 added population between 2010 and 2020, Texas ranked 1stin numeric growth among all the states and was the only state that gained two congressional seats; Texas growth rate of 15.9% more than doubled the growth rate of the nation (7.4%); Over 95% of the state s growth were attributed to the increase of persons of color; The fastest growing areas in Texas are the suburban ring counties, the counties along the I-35 corridor and the golden triangle counties. 143 of the 254 counties in Texas have lost population between 2010 to 2020.

Updates from the Census Bureaus V2021 National and State Population Estimates Since April 1, 2020, the nation s population increased from 331,449,281 to 331,893,745, a gain of 444,464, or 0.13%, the slowest rate since the nation s founding ; With a population of 29,527,941 in 2021, Texas had the largest numeric gain, increasing by 382,436 (1.3%), or 1.1% annual growth.

Upcoming releases The 2016-2020 American Community Survey 5-year Summary File will be released Mar. 17th; Census Bureau s Vintage 2021 Population Estimates will be released on a rolling bases through June; TDC s 2021 population estimates and population projections for 2020- 2060 will be released in fall.
