Appendix C to the Consultation on UKAC Scoring Schemes 2017
Whats in this presentation? Slides 2-4 The fundamentals behind any points per kilometre and squares based scoring system for each of the three sections using potential scores data derived from the open logs. Slides 5-7 What happens if these fundamentals are combined using B2, B3 and Nordic scoring systems for March 2017 grouped by section. Slides 8-10 Actual rescored log data averaged by square Jan to April 2017 again grouped by section. Slide 11 Examples of how similar the results obtained with M7 and Nordic are. Slides 12-26 The effects on individual stations of the two alternative bonus systems relative to PPK using May 2017 results broken down by both band and section. You can see the callsign and locator of individual stations by hovering you mouse over the individual points. Slide 27 The variation in average ODX between the bands and sections. Slide 28 Description of the methodology used.

Average ODX by Band and Section Jan-April 2017 600 500 400 300 200 100 0 The wide range of average ODX values from over 500 to less than 200Kms makes the design of a single scoring system for all bands and sections difficult.
Methodology The open log data and published results for all the UKAC contests were downloaded from from the RSGB VHF website http://www.rsgbcc.org/vhf/ The open logs data under went basic adjudication1. The logs were then rescored using the proposed scoring systems and results presented in graphical form. In order to better understand the possible regional effects of these scoring systems the potential score of a notional station at the centre of each inhabited UK/CD square was calculated. This was done by calculate what score this station would get if they worked all stations active in that contest out to a given radius of their location. The radius was taken to be the average ODX for that month for that specific band and section. 1. Logs under went basic adjudication to remove invalid QSO which could effect the modeling. This was done using a computer based system without human intervention, so systematic errors like entering the wrong date or callsign were not corrected and these log was not included in the analysis, however QSOs with these stations were still allowed.
