Insights into Unemployment-GDP Relationship
Revisiting Okun's Law through time series and panel data analyses, this paper confirms the negative relationship between unemployment and GDP growth across 85 economies from 1978 to 2014. Factors affecting Okun's coefficient are identified, including labor market institutions, economic structure, fiscal policy, demographic changes, and quality of jobs created. The study highlights the variation in Okun's Law across countries and over time, emphasizing the influence of market regulations on the unemployment-business cycle dynamics.
