Canvas Assignment The Canvas Support team created a new (unpublished) assignment in Canvas for courses that have an online exam in Inspera on Thursday 3rd June. Examiners were notified with steps on how to publish the assignment and ensure grades are passed back with correct weighting. 3
Questions Since the Inspera online exam assignment was created we ve recieved some questions: 1. Why is the assignment 100 points when my assigment is XX points. Do I need to update it? 2. Why is the assignment due date the start time for the exam, won t this be confusing for students? 3. Will students be marked as late if they start the exam at the due time in Canvas? 4. My exam doesn t include any file uploads can I remove any mention of this in Submitting results section? 5. Is there a different link for students to access the Inspera exam? 6. Where do students start the exam Canvas or Inspera? 4
Questions & Answers 1. Why is the assignment 100 points when my assignment is XX points. Do I need to update it? Yes you can update the points to match the total marks for the exam. The points will be automatically updated when the grades are confirmed in Inspera. During grade passback, the new Integration process will check the total marks in the Inspera exam and update the points before passing the confirmed marks. 5
Questions & Answers 2. Why is the assignment due date the start time for the exam, won t this be confusing for students? The Inspera champions recommended including specific student instructions that the time used is the timetabled exam start time. 3. Will students be marked as late if they start the exam at the due time in Canvas? Students will not be marked late as Inspera is not using External Tool in Canvas. Students have been directly added to their exams in Inspera which controls the start and end times. 6
Questions & Answers 4. My exam doesn t include any file uploads can I remove any mention of this in Submitting results section? Please update the assignment as it best suits the format of the exam, if there are no file upload questions these references can be removed E.g.: Submitting your exam Online exams have an additional 30 minutes added to the exam duration to allow time for reading the exam questions and handling any technical issues that may arise. Inspera will automatically submit your exam when the exam ends. 7
Questions & Answers 5. Is there a different link for students to access the Inspera exam? There is only one link for all Inspera online exams as students are enrolled directly in Inspera 6. Where do students start the exam Canvas or Inspera? Students access their exams from the Inspera Dashboard: https://auckland.inspera.com/ 8
Next steps Canvas Support team will be checking the online exam assignments are published to students. Students will get a Canvas notification when the assignment is published. We strongly recommend staff post a Canvas announcement about the exam and what to expect, how to prepare, etc. Note: Students cannot start their exam early as Inspera controls the start/end times of the exams. 9
Grade Passback When grades are confirmed in Inspera the new Integration tool will do the following: 1. Check the allocated Inspera online assignment exists in Canvas 2. Check the total points in Inspera matches the Inspera online assignment points (and update to match if required) 3. Ensure Manual Posting policy is applied to the assignment 4. Pass the confirmed marks from Inspera assessment to allocated assignment in Canvas Gradebook Note: The Integration tool is currently being tested and we will notify Examiners when this is available. 11
Grade Passback Examiner steps 1. Confirm the marks and grades 2. Check Canvas Gradebook for updated marks Note: if confirmed marks haven t appeared in Canvas Gradebook after 60 minutes then log ticket with Canvas Support with course details. 12
Grade Passback What happens if the Inspera online exam assignment is deleted? The assignments have been linked to the exam assessments in Inspera. If the assignment that was created by Canvas Support team on 3rd June has been deleted then the grades will not pass back to Canvas course. Please contact the Canvas Support team if the assignment has been accidentally deleted. 13

Inspera Practice/Mock exam requirements: Must close at least 1 day before the scheduled exam Naming convention to include Practice or Mock and Course Code E.g.: Practice exam PSYCH 109/109G Exams Office will be checking to ensure there is no overlap with scheduled exams 15
