  1. 3D Character Art Intro to 3D Sculpting James.B.H

  2. The Software The Software you will be using for these Tasks is Sculptfab. The software runs in your browser so it doesn't need installing, just follow the link below to get it running... https://labs.sketchfab.com/sculptfab/ Your Screen should look like this

  3. Introduction SculpFab is free to use browser-based sculpting software which enables you to manipulate polygons using a range of manipulation tools. Using Polygons and learning how they can be manipulated is essential the basis of 3D modelling. Most 3D Models are made out of Polygons (2D Shapes). Two of the main methods used in Games & Film to manipulate polygons are hard-surface modelling (for assets, levels, props etc) and sculpting or also referred to as organic modelling.

  4. Introduction In this Introduction to 3D we will be focusing on sculpting as it s a really fun place to start and quickly knock together some designs. To Note: Further down the line you will learn how to combine both these methods to create really detailed models.

  5. The Interface Sculptfab has quite a simple interface compared to some 3D Packages. The main tools you will be using for the task are in the Sculpt Menu on the right hand side. The only other parts of the Menu you need to know for now, in the Menu Bar at the top, is the File Menu which allows you to save your project as well as import or open other/your own Models. History Menu also allows you to Undo/Redo, but try the keyboard shortcuts - Ctrl+Z & Ctrl+Y

  6. The Interface 2 If you ever want to start again/reset your sphere, just click here. I assure you, that you will do this a lot and the trick is to not get too bothered about a sculpt you have been working on, as sometimes it s quicker to start from scratch rather than trying to fix. You have a range of Sculpt Tools to choose from in this software which all have different purposes but also their own settings which are below. Let s have a go...

  7. Task 1 Sculpting Practice Let s start off getting used to the feel and effects of the different tools and how you can manipulate the sphere. 1. Start with the main Brush, sculpting some random shapes in to the sphere, you could make a planet or a random face, don't worry about accuracy/detail. 2. Experiment with the Brush settings, mainly Radius (size of your brush) and the Intensity (strength). Also have a go at trying the Negative setting (will do the opposite to the default affects) and Symmetry.

  8. Well Done! Please post your work on the following Padlet link, https://padlet.com/james_bennett_hill/GamesTasterTasks IF you want to have a go at something more advanced check out the Taster_Sculpting Task 2
