What are we covering today? What are we covering today? What is Our Program? What is Scouts | Terrain? What does our Unit need to do? When do we need to do it?
Disclaimer! Disclaimer! Our Program is still being rolled out in full, and there is a good chance that some information may change in the near future. Keep an eye out on all the usual news sources for the latest info.
What is Our Program? What is Our Program?
Our Program Our Program Achievement Achievement Pathways Pathways One Program for all sections of scouting, from Joeys to Rovers Focusing on Personal Development, and encouraging all units to be active in their program Some of your achievements follow you through scouting, so no more re-starting badges at each level A good unit program will push you towards achieving a Peak Award, you shouldn t need a youth member to push ahead.
Things we already know Things we already know SPICES Plan > Do > Review > Challenge Areas
New Language New Language Everyone is a Unit now! We have Joey Scout Units, Cub Scout Units, Scout Units, Venturer Units, and Rover Units Patrols are now common across all sections (e.g. Cubs are now in Patrols instead of Sixes). For Venturers, only likely to be relevant for activities where a Project Patrol may be formed Unit Chair is now known as Unit Leader. Unit Leader for all sections is a knowledgeable youth member who can lead part or all of the Unit (in Scout section, replaces Troop Scout).

In Depth In Depth - - Milestones Milestones
Milestones Milestones Core Components Core Components Requires Venturer Unit to have an active program Programs should show what Challenge Area each activity covers Programs should also show Leads and Assists Attendance Tracking also needed to prove Participates Leads and Assists should be reasonable for the individual Plan > Do > Review > is essential to ensuring program runs effectively.
Milestone 1 Milestone 1 Participate in 6 activities from each challenge area (24) Assist in (at least) 2 activities from at least 2 challenge areas (2) Lead (at least) 1 activity from any challenge area (1) Self Reflection Interview
Milestone 2 Milestone 2 Participate in 5 activities from each challenge area (20) Assist in (at least) 3 activities from at least 2 challenge areas (3) Lead (at least) 2 activity from any challenge area (2) Self Reflection Interview
Milestone 3 Milestone 3 Participate in 4 activities from each challenge area (16) Assist in (at least) 4 activities from at least 2 challenge areas (4) Lead (at least) 4 activity from any challenge area (4) Self Reflection Interview
Milestones Milestones things to note things to note You can use an Assist or Lead on an activity as a participate if you need to increase participates. All members should use an activity towards the same challenge area. Programs should be varied to allow for all challenge areas to be covered. You can do more Assists and Leads if you want. Bigger nights and camps could be broken into multiple activities to allow more opportunities for Leads and Assists
In Depth ( In Depth (ish Outdoor Adventure Skills Outdoor Adventure Skills ish) )
Outdoor Adventure Skills (OAS) Outdoor Adventure Skills (OAS) Covers our core Scouty activities. As the name suggests, they are Skills for the Outdoors and/or Adventurous Activities. Each area has Stages from 1 to 9 Stages are retained between sections. 3 Core Areas, 6 Specialist Areas 2 Above sign off any member 2 stages above may assess a youth member Venturers will be asked to help assess Scouts and maybe Cubs Venturers may need to ask Rovers to assist with assessing older unit members
Outdoor Adventure Skills (OAS) Outdoor Adventure Skills (OAS) Achievement is tracked in number of Progressions across all Outdoor Adventure Skills (ie Stage 3 to 4). Progressions are counted from start of time in Section, so progressions from Scouts don t count in Venturers, but you will start where you left off. Specialist Areas will likely involve Adventurous Activities Teams for stages 4 and above. Assessed with peers using I-Statements (I can light a match, I can plan a hike route, etc)
OAS OAS Core Areas Core Areas Bushcraft Pioneering and Survival Skills Bushwalking Mapping, Planning, Risk Management, First Aid, Minimal Impact Camping What it says on the tin!
OAS OAS Specialist Areas Specialist Areas Aquatic Alpine Boating Cycling Paddling Vertical
In Depth ( In Depth (ish Special Interest Areas Special Interest Areas ish) )

Special Interest Areas Special Interest Areas Adventure & Sport Team Sports, Animal Care, non-physical adventures Arts and Literature Things that would go in Expressions Creating a Better World Citizenship activities, Service, Community Work and Engagement Environment Sustainability, Clean Up Australia Day, Climate Change, Waste/Recycling Growth and Development Learning new skills/languages, Volunteering work, Fitness STEM and Innovation New technologies, innovative ideas. Some more interesting construction.

What is Scouts | Terrain What is Scouts | Terrain
Scouts | Terrain Scouts | Terrain Replaces the Maroon/Record Book Tracks Participates, Assists and Leads Can be used to complete Plan > Do > Review > Somewhat replaces Scout Central, but Scout Central will remain DOES NOT Replace Caremonkey (now Operoo)
When do we get Scouts | Terrain? When do we get Scouts | Terrain? Numerous delays, but for good reasons Current scheduled rollout: Adult Leaders have access from 25th September (Start of School Holidays) Youth Members and all other members have access from 9th October Aim is to have all members in Australia using Scouts | Terrain by end of 2020. Suggested start of use is beginning of Term 4 Dates may change!
What do we need to do? What do we need to do?
What should your unit do and when? What should your unit do and when? Plan > Do > Review >, Spices, Challenge Areas Should already be underway Milestones Start ASAP. Transitioning across will be a little messy, but the earlier you start tracking Participates, Assists and Leads, the easier it will be. Make sure your term program has the Challenge Areas as well as Leads and Assists on it! OAS Start tracking activities that may fall under OAS Support not quite ready, official start date is not until next year. However, we are not prohibited from starting early if we want to. Special Interest Areas Can start now, will be easy to convert at a later date if you are already doing proper proposals and completions. Scouts | Terrain Get familiar with it as soon as it is released
Which award scheme should I use Which award scheme should I use As a General Guide, if you have completed your Venturer Award or higher you will likely finish your Queens Scout on the Current (Old) system, however you could choose to transition if you wished. If you haven t gotten to your Venturer Award yet, you should probably transfer to the new system when possible. If you want to work out where you sit in Outdoor Adventure Skills, look at the I-Statements for the level you think you are at, if you can t answer all the questions go down one.
