Electronics : Input Electronics : Input - - Process Process - - Output Output Learning Intention: Investigate the three stages of electronic devices Success Criteria: I can investigate the use of logic gates and complete truth tables.
Activity 1- Notes Logic Gates A circuit board can be found inside most digital devices. It is a flat, thin board that has tiny electrical components built onto it. Many electronic circuits have to make decisions. They look at one or more inputs and use these to determine the outputs from the circuit. The process of doing this uses electronic logic, which is based on digital switches called gates. Each input and output of the logic gates must be one of two states: True or in other words on False or in other words off
Logic gates can be used in the process stage of a digital device. Water temperature is 40oC, Good! Have I got enough water inside yet? e.g. A washing machine processor will decide to start washing if there is enough water and it is at the correct temperature.
Activity 2-Watch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xi18hI1LqAA
TRUTH TABLES TRUTH TABLES A truth table shows us what a logic gate does. It tells us the output for any set of inputs. Input A Input B Output OFF OFF OFF OFF ON OFF The truth table for an AND gate is shown. ON OFF OFF ON ON ON
Activity 3- Notes Copy and paste the truth tables into your class notebook page and complete. Input A Input B Output Input A Input B Output Input Output OFF OFF OFF OFF OFF OFF OFF ON OFF OFF ON ON ON OFF OFF ON OFF ON ON ON ON ON
Activity 4- Read the information on BBC Bitesize and try the test at the end. https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/guides/zxb72 hv/revision/1
What have I learned today? Name 3 logic gates I can draw the circuit symbols for these logic gates I can describe how each logic gate behaves I can complete the truth tables for each logic gate
