Investing in Programs that Work: The Pew-MacArthur Results First Initiative
The Pew-MacArthur Results First Initiative focuses on strategic budget choices by identifying currently funded programs, their costs, accomplishments, and comparisons to alternatives. It uses national research to predict impact, calculate long-term costs and benefits, and analyze cost-effectiveness ratios. Participating states enact legislation to incorporate Results First into policy-making, saving millions. Examples include Iowa replacing ineffective programs and California engaging in community partnerships. The initiative aims to improve program effectiveness and resource allocation for better outcomes.
