IPAC-SASKPIC 2019-2020 CIC Chapter Achievement Award
IPAC-SASKPIC Mission Statement: To enhance the quality of healthcare in Saskatchewan by providing a forum for education and the exchange of information on communicable diseases, the prevention and control of infections in the patient/client/resident, as well as the healthcare worker and the public at large. To collaborate and network among persons interested in infection prevention and control (IPAC). Act as a provincial representative to promote the brand of IPAC- Canada
IPAC-SASKPIC Membership: SASKPIC had 74 members during 2019, and 77 member in 2020. In total by December 2019, 42% of membership (31 members) had obtained their CIC designation. In total by December 2020, 31% (24 members) held current CIC certification. Eligible members of SASKPIC who have not completed their CIC are encouraged to obtain new certification and maintain recertification. Several SASKPIC members work in other fields where Infection Prevention and Control is not included in their job description, but is valuable to their field of work. These members do not qualify to complete CIC examination based on CBIC Criteria.
IPAC-SASKPIC 2019 CIC Achievement: In 2019 there were 21 SASKPIC Members that were eligible to write their initial or recertification exam. 43% of SASKPIC members eligible to initially write or recertify their CIC qualifications successfully completed examination during 2019. 4 members were successful writing their initial CIC exam and another 5 members successfully recertified during 2019. As of December 2019 there are 12 SASKPIC members who are eligible to write initial CIC examination or recertification and have not done so which accounts for only 16% of membership.
IPAC-SASKPIC 2020 CIC Achievement: In 2020 there were 16 SASKPIC Members that were eligible to write their initial or recertification exam. By December of 2020 this meant there were 21% of membership eligible for initial or recertification. Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic and increased work load in 2020 SASKPIC did not have any members obtain or recertify for CIC Certification. SASKPIC will continue throughout 2021 to encourage membership to attain certification.
SASKPIC Promotion of CIC Certification: During 2019 one member was awarded $500.00 towards reimbursement for CIC Certification. At the Fall 2019 SASKPIC AGM membership approved an increase to financial assistance for CIC reimbursement or other educational assistance of an additional $500.00 per year. Going forward, each year $1000.00 will be allocated from the SASKPIC budget for CIC reimbursement or other educational assistance such as funding to take to IPAC related courses.
SASKPIC Promotion of CIC Certification: SASKPIC Financial Awards for educational funding and CIC certification are offered yearly on a first come first serve basis and must be used in the year they are awarded. Every newly CIC certified member is provided with a letter of congratulations upon successful completion of the exam. All newly certified and recertified members are recognized during SASKPIC s yearly Fall AGM Rose Ceremony. Previously certified members throughout SASKPIC are available to assist in studying for the CIC exam as well as sharing resources such as study guides and APIC Texts.
