IT Transformation Programme at Queen Mary University
Queen Mary University of London is implementing an IT Transformation Programme with a focus on Research Data Management. The programme aims to enhance IT services and support for research activities, grant applications, and data management. It involves improving research lifecycle management, providing central IT support for grant applications, and establishing a repository for digital music research data. The initiative addresses the challenges faced by researchers in maintaining websites and databases post-research, improving the quality of IT sections in grant applications, and offering a catalogue of supported IT solutions. By ensuring governance, funding, and senior sponsorship, Queen Mary aims to achieve a successful IT transformation that fosters shared ownership and inclusion while avoiding top-heavy approaches with excessive change and reliance on consultants.

Research Data Management and the IT Transformation Programme
The Provide IT Services to Support Grant Applications project is part of the improve research lifecycle management theme. The objectives of this project are: * Post research IT support research often results in the creation of an external website and database. However, once the research is complete or if a researcher leaves QM, these sites can become poorly maintained, impacting on the reputation of QM. This activity is about providing a central monitoring and support service for these websites and databases. * IT Support for grant applications - when applying for grants, researchers often have to complete a section describing how IT will be used to support the research, the costs, how it will be maintained etc. Completing this section is a major disincentive to non IT literate researchers and when complete can be of low quality resulting in the loss of research grant money (it is estimated that 25% of HSS grant applications are lost because of poor IT sections). A key objective of this project is to provide central IT support to complete the technical sections of applications. * Catalogue of IT services and solutions - Researchers would like a catalogue of approved and centrally supported IT solutions with costs. Examples include access to backed up and maintained storage space, processing power, security solutions, databases, GIS tools etc.
