Keeping watch Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Jesus watch where He is laid They prepare more spices and perfume Chief priests remember that Jesus had said He would rise again after three days (John 2:19-21) They were afraid His disciples might remove the body
Keeping watch This would cause them great difficulty if the people thought He did rise from the dead They go to Pilate The tomb is sealed Roman soldiers guard the tomb All of this happened on the day He died Now, activities cease for the Sabbath

Christ is raised!!! One of the men spoke telling the women that Jesus is risen He reminds them of what Jesus had told them in Galilee Luke 9:22 saying, "The Son of Man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised the third day."
Christ is raised!!! Mary Magdalene tells Peter and John they have taken the Lord and we do not know where they have laid Him Peter and John race toward the tomb John stops at the entrance Peter goes in followed by John They see the grave clothes, but no body
Appearances of Jesus Mary Magdalene returns to the tomb One of the angels asks why she is weeping They have taken away my Lord and I do not know where they have laid Him
Appearances of Jesus Jesus is behind her and speaks to her She does not recognize Him Jesus calls her by name and she knows it is Him He tells her to go tell the others I have seen the Lord She was the first to see Jesus alive
Appearances of Jesus Other women go to the tomb Jesus greets them They fall at His feet worshiping Him He tells them to tell the others to go to Galilee and He would see them there Now there is joy!!
Roman guards Now they realize what has happened They tell the chief priests and rulers You are to say someone stole the body while we slept Roman soldiers sleeping on duty?? Jewish rulers said they would cover things with Pilate This is the word that spread

1 Corinthians 15:6-7 Paul writes to the Corinthians At one event Jesus appeared to over 500 at once He also appeared to James
Why Was it Important for Jesus to Appear After Resurrection? Because He Said He Would To Strengthen Apostles So the Apostles Could be Witnesses For Our Assurance
Because He Said He Would Matthew 26:31-32 Matthew 28:16
To Strengthen the Apostles Jesus told them they would be hated (John 16:2) They had fled when Jesus was taken Peter had denied the Lord 3 times They were afraid of the Jews (John 20:19) They mourned and wept (Mark 16:10)
So the Apostles Could be Witnesses Acts 1:8, 21-22 Acts 2:32 Acts 3:14-15 Acts 4:33 Acts 5:29-32 Acts 10:40-41 Acts 13:29-31
For Our Assurance John 20:29-31 Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed. I Cor. 15:12-20 If Christ is not risen then our faith is empty
Why Was it Important for Jesus to Appear After Resurrection? For His disciples then, and for His disciples now, to have faith!
When sufficient evidence has been presented Appearance to the disciples He asked for food and ate A spirit does not eat He rebuked their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they did not believe those who had seen Him after He had risen. They accepted His resurrection as fact He breathed on them for them to receive the Holy Spirit
John 20:29-31 Jesus said to him, "Thomas, because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed. And truly Jesus did many other signs in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name.
