  4. introduction introduction JSS Mahavidyapeeta Mysore is one of the largest and most respected not for profit Organization that was been Supporting Human development cause in the form of Education, health care and uplifting the downtrodden with more than 350 institutions 20,000 employees and 1,00,000 students. JSS Karnataka Open School started in theyear 2000-2001. Established with the encouragement of National Institute of Open Schooling(NIOS), Noida. NOS was set up in 1979 as a pioneering project titled Open School.(An autonomous institution under department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. NIOS is The largest Open Schooling System in the world. To promote Open Schooling program, NIOS has been persuading the states to set up State Open School. NIOS imparts education through open and distance learning (ODL) made using a mix of self- instructional print material audio and video programme supported by personal contact programme (PCP).

  5. State Open Schools State Open Schools Twenty States have setup State Open School. JSS Karnataka Open School is one of them. Each State has its own Open School which is being run by respective State Government. But in Karnataka the responsibility of running State Open School is entrusted to prestigious JSS Mahavidyapeetha, Mysore which is unique in nature. Before 1999 State Open School was run by Mahashikshana Trust (R) Bangalore. Mahashikshana Trust handedover the State Open School to JSS Mahavidyapeethaon 20thDecember 2000. The President of the JSS Mahavidyapeetha is the President of JSS Karnataka Open School. JSS Karnataka Open School is the member of National Institute of Open Schooling. The head quarter of the National Institute of Open Schooling is at Noida, in UP.

  6. Learning is defined as an method of learning that allows learns plainly and choice over, what, when, atwhat place, whereand how they learn. Open Education usually refers to Education which is available to any one regardress of his or herqualification.   10. Who are not able to attend or could not attend regular school because of various reason and now they want to complete their Education in 10thor 12thregards of age and some other reason. They cannot join regularschool programmes.

  11. Target Group Target Group Those who have passed or failed 7th, 8thor 9th Standard and have completed 15 years of age are eligible foradmission. School dropout/left-out and marginalized groups such as rural youth, urban, poor , girls and women, SCs, STs backward classes, divyangs and otherweakersectors of the society.

  15. Examination & Results Examination & Results Before 2006 Examinations were conducted for 5 subjects as per the guidelines of NIOS. Students who have passed in five subjects could not get jobs. Then JSS Mahavidyapeetha persuaded the matter with the Government. Government of Karnataka declared KOS Examination as equivalent to regular SSLC vide GO No. ED73 SLB 2006 Bangalore, dated 06.09.2006. Since then examination was conducted for 6 subjects. This has facilitated to get jobs. Majority of them got the job in different areas such as drivers , conductors, attenders etc. and few of them persued higher education.
