Helicopter lands in New York river, all safe New York: New York authorities say a helicopter carrying four Swedish tourists has landed in the Hudson River off Manhattan, but everyone has been rescued. The incident happened shortly before noon Sunday in the section of the river near 79th Street. The pilot and four passengers were taken to shore.

Suresh Kalmadi to contest in Asian Athletics Association elections Pune: Undeterred by corruption charges and the subsequent court cases for his alleged involvement in the 2010 Commonwealth Games scam, Suresh Kalmadi will contest for the post of President of the Asian Athletics Association (AAA) today.

  4. 3. Uttarakhand tragedy: Were warnings from the Met department ignored? Dehradun: Could pilgrims and tourists have been evacuated in time to avoid the monsoon fury in Kedarnath? The Uttarakhand Met department claims that warnings of very heavy rain, unusual for this time of the year, were issued two days ahead of deluge. Warnings, that were accompanied by an advisory that the Char dham Yatra should be deferred by a few days.

  7. 6. Bear attacks two forest guards who rescued it from a well Chennai: Two forest guards in Tamil Nadu's Krishnagiri district were attacked by a bear who they rescued from a well on Sunday. The bear had strayed into the Bargur village from a nearby jungle. It had attacked a farmer and then fell into a well while on the run.

Policeman killed, two security personnel injured in encounter in Jammu and Kashmir Srinagar: A policeman was killed and two other security personnel were injured in an encounter with militants in Pulwama district of south Kashmir today. The encounter comes amid a bandh call by separatists in the Valley in protest against the death of two young men in Army firing on Sunday. The encounter took place at Tral during a counter- insurgency operation launched by the security forces following information about the presence of militants in the area, a police spokesman said. A policemen from the state police and a CRPF jawan sustained injuries in the exchange of fire with the militants, the spokesman said.

Rupee weakens to 59.47 after 2-day rally The rupee opened weaker on Monday after gaining in each of the previous two sessions, with domestic stocks expected to give further direction to the currency. The rupee was trading at 59.46/47 to the dollar as against 59.385/395 Friday close. It hit a record low of 60.76 last week.

Nokia to fully acquire Siemens' stake in Nokia Siemens Networks Nokia will pay $2.2 billion to buy out partner Siemens AG in their network equipment joint venture, a deal that is likely to bring some stability to the company after it stumbled in smart phones. Loss-making Nokia also gained full control of the profitable venture, Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN), at a cheaper than-expected price, analysts said.

  12. 11. Rupee gains to 59.20 on Unilever open offer related inflow: report The rupee gained on talk of inflows related to Unilever's open offer for the Indian unit, dealers said. The pair traded at 59.24/25 versus 59.52 intraday low and 59.385/395 close on Friday. Unilever's $5.4 billion open offer for Hindustan Unilever commenced on June 21. Dealers said some declines in the pair may also be position unwinding ahead of Unilever flows.

Deutsche Bank cuts Idea Cellular to 'hold' Deustche Bank downgraded Idea Cellular to "hold" from "buy", citing regulatory risks and valuations after the stock outperformed the BSE Sensex over the past six months. The bank says Idea's recent outperformance already discounts hopes about execution, margin expansion and positive cash flows that were the main premise for its previous "buy" rating.

Samsung plans to invest Rs. 500 crore to ramp up mobile production South Korean electronics major Samsung is planning to invest over Rs. 500 crore to ramp up its mobile production capacity in India, industry sources said. "Samsung is working to invest Rs. 500 crore in its mobile production facility in India. It had approached government in this regard to take benefit of policy announcements and other incentives. The investment proposals have been cleared at Department of Electronics and IT (DEITY) level," a source told PTI.

Vodafone offers Rs. 4,000 cr to renew Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata licences New Delhi: Vodafone Group Plc's Indian unit, which is in a dispute with the government over the renewal of its licences in three key cities, is offering to pay Rs. 4,000 crore for the extension of the permits, the company said in a letter dated June 18 to the telecom ministry and seen by Reuters.
