  2. Five Areas of Promotion and Retention Five Areas of Promotion and Retention 1. Obtain a minimum yearly average of 65 in ALL subjects 2. Master 80% of standards in Reading and Math 3. Meet Growth Goals in Reading, Math, and Science 4. Meet 20 Book Requirement 5. Meet Intervention Goals

  3. Obtain Obtain a minimum yearly average of 65 in ALL subjects a minimum yearly average of 65 in ALL subjects Students at Holly Springs Junior High School are on a seven period schedule. All students take: English Math Computer Discovery/ICTII History Science Plus an elective (Choir, General Music, Learning Strategies, Football, Band, or PE)

  4. Master 80% of standards in Reading and Math Standards are calculated from all external assessments (Four Week Assessments, Nine Weeks Assessments and Semester Exams). There are 28 Reading Standards in both grades. There are 24 7thGrade Math Standards. There are 28 8thGrade Math Standards. Therefore students will have to master 22 Reading Standards in both grades. 19 7thGrade Math Standards, and 22 8thGrade Math Standards

  5. Meet Growth Goals in Reading, Math, and Science Students are given a Growth Goal based upon their previous year s state test scores. Five Levels of State Assessments ( Lowest to Highest) Minimal Basic Passing Proficient Advanced

  6. Meet 20 Book Requirement Student take the STAR assessment every 4 weeks. According to their ZPD level students are to read 20 books a year which is 5 books per nine weeks. Books are counted if the student makes a 80 or above on their Accelerated Reading (AR) tests. Book Guidelines: 1. One book per sport (basketball, football, baseball, soccer, etc) on reading level 2. Two books per entertainment artist (one male and/or female) on reading level 3. Teacher request

  7. Meet Intervention Goals All students have interventions. At Holly Springs Junior High School the following programs are used for interventions: Which Students Intervention Program Student Goal All iReady Reading 3 MyPath lessons per week All iReady Math 3 MyPath lessons per week Promising 25 Lexia Number of Minutes is Prescribed by the student s performance on the diagnostic assessment Learning Strategies Edugenuity 90 minutes per week and 6 lessons

  8. Frequency Asked Questions 1. When is the deadline to turn in missing assignments? April 5, 2021 2. How long will my child be considered an inconsistent student? Student will be considered inconsistent until work is made up.

  9. Frequency Asked Questions 3. What if my child does not meet the deadline for making up work? Student will not be promoted to the next grade until ALL work is made up. Student will have to attend summer school with a possible fee of $500. 4. Where can makeup work be found? Make up work can be found on the student s Schoology homepage. It is located in the right column under the calendar. If the teacher uses Google Classroom, make up work can also be found there.

Parents can have students log into their child s Schoology, iReady, Lexia, and Edugenuity accounts to check for missed assignments. Parents can also contact their child s teachers to get missing assignment information. 6. Where can students go to find AR books? AR book information is found under the student tab of the school s webpage which url is juniorhigh@hssdk12.org In this tab students can find where to read AR books as well as take AR tests.

  11. Frequency Asked Questions 7. What can students take AR tests? AR tests can only be taken during school hours which is 7:30 am 3:30 pm 8. Do my child have to come to school if they are considered an inconsistent student? We strongly encourage you to send your child to school. Most students perform better in the presence of their teachers due to a number of factors which may include less distractions in which students can focus on their lesson.

  12. Frequency Asked Questions 9. Knowing that my child is an inconsistent student, can I still keep my child virtual? Yes, however, you will be assuming full responsibility in ensuring that the student complete All assignments and Promotion Goals.
