  2. KERN COMMUNITY COLLEGE DISTRICT Accreditation Overview The system of accreditation in the United States is a century old, voluntary, peer-based, nongovernmental system. The United States Department of Education recognizes seven ( 7 ) regional accrediting commissions.

(Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges) Part of WASC (Western Association of Schools and Colleges) Accredits community colleges and other associate granting institutions in the Western region One of seven regional accrediting commissions in the U.S. ACCJC is authorized to operate by the Department of Education What is accreditation? Voluntary participation in self regulation Peer review process to ensure overall educational quality and Institutional effectiveness Site visit every 6 years (moving to every 7 years)

KERN COMMUNITY COLLEGE DISTRICT Accreditation Overview The Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges has 19 Commissioners who, by law, have the responsibility to make the decisions on the accredited status of member institutions. The Commission consists of: 3 ADMINISTRATORS 5 FACULTY 5 PUBLIC One each from state chancellor s office, University of Hawaii community college system, independent colleges, WASC Senior College and University Commission, and Commission on Schools.

Provides assurance to the public that the college meets set Standards and Federal Eligibility Requirements (ERs) Provides assurance to employers and other higher education institutions that the degree is legitimate Needed to receive federal financial aid The primary purpose of an ACCJC-accredited institution is to foster student learning and student achievement. An effective institution ensures that its resources, programs, and services, whenever, wherever, and however delivered, support student learning and achievement. The effective institution ensures academic quality and continues improvement through ongoing assessment of learning and achievement and pursues institutional excellence and improvement through ongoing, integrated planning and evaluation. KERN COMMUNITY COLLEGE DISTRICT Accreditation Overview Standard 1: Mission, Academic Quality and Institutional Effectiveness and Integrity Mission, Academic Quality and Institutional Effectiveness & Institutional Integrity Focus on mission and purposes of each institution and institutional effectiveness achieving the mission Focus on data-driven assessment and continuous quality improvement and student achievement and learning. Focus on the clarity, accuracy and integrity of institutional information and processes Standard 2: Student Learning Programs and Support Services Instructional Programs, Library and Learning Support Services & Student Support Services Focus on quality and rigor of instruction, student support, learning services

KERN COMMUNITY COLLEGE DISTRICT Accreditation Overview Standard 3: Resources Human Resources, Physical Resources, Technology Resources & Financial Resources Focus on capacity of human, physical, technological and financial resources to support achievement of mission and maintain institutional integrity Standard 4: Leadership and Governance Decision-Making Roles and Processes, Chief Executive Office, Governing Board & Multi-College Districts Focus on decision making roles and responsibilities and the capacity of leadership to support and achieve mission and student success Focus on the effectiveness of the governance structure, the CEO and the governing board, including leadership roles and responsibilities in multi-college districts or systems

KERN COMMUNITY COLLEGE DISTRICT Accreditation Overview Kern Community College District 2017-18 Timeline Draft Institutional Self Evaluation Reports due to Board of Trustees committee March 31, 2018 Board committee meets with each college team to review Institutional Self Evaluation Report and provides comments Week of April 16 Institutional Self Evaluation Reports due to District Office to submit for approval at July 12 Board of Trustees Meeting June 8, 2018 Board of Trustees approves Institutional Self Evaluation Report July 12, 2018 College Institutional Self Evaluation Reports submitted to Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges July 15, 2018
