Keys to Growth We are a membership organization that does world and community service District 6630 Membership Committee
Membership Trends Our District Global I joined Rotary in 2003 - I was told them that I was joining 1.2 million members
Traditional plan for growth: invite people to visit our club. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. (Albert Einstein) How many Rotarians are there in your community who do not yet know that they are Rotarians?
Two Ways to Grow Rotary Change your club culture Create flexibility in membership (i.e. the Gumby Strategy) There are few rules .
Key Attributes of Successful Clubs 1. Strong Leadership 2. Many Events and Projects 3. Visibly Active in the Local Community/Strong Public Image 4. Active Intentional Member Engagement 5. Clear Goals and a Growth Plan
Strong Leadership Reimagine Rotary. Pursue the vision with members Get people to yes. It is the members club. Listen and be fluid. Encourage members to be open to change to better serve our communities and provide new paths to service and fellowship as Rotarians.
Many events and projects As frequent as twice per month Keep new and potential members in mind Add to your signature projects Include informal fellowship events (happy hours, coffee, fireside chat) Invite those who share a desire for service and fellowship. Partner with other organizations Wear Rotary Gear! Make your Rotary Club brand visible!
Visibly Active in the Local Community/Strong Public Image Active, Sustained Local Public Image strategy Social media usage has been a key to growth. Community pages Follow, Follow, Follow Share, Share, Share New and expanded Partnerships Help can be found on 6630 website: toolkit Social Media Webpage Traditional Media Event Visibility
Active Intentional Member Engagement (Experienced) Friendly, Fun and Inclusive Meetings and Events Strong Meeting Programs Engage Members in Community Projects, meetings, and socials Recognize Match Service to Interests Make fellowship a priority Invite and welcome family and friends
Active Intentional Member Engagement (New) Invite common travelers Welcome and acquain. Survey new members - what do they want from their membership experience? Find hosts for all new members Engage them - they were motivated to join; do not allow that energy to wane
Clear Membership Goals and a Growth Plan Make growth a top priority Track your progress Active Membership Committee Retention is (or more!) as important as attraction! Engage Club Members
Satellite Clubs For those who want to be Rotarians but cannot meet when/where the sponsor club does. A satellite club is a branch of the sponsor (legacy) club that meets at a different time, location or manner than the legacy club. Eight members sponsored by the legacy club To be a club, two events per month need to be held - meeting, social or service Satellite clubs can become standalone with twenty or more members and appropriate governance. A new type of satellite club is an Impact Club .
Impact Clubs (or Members) For those who want to serve but cannot meet May start as a membership type Impact members pay dues. Impact members are welcome to attend club meetings and socials Monthly get-togethers of the members is recommended. Impact Club members move to the legacy club as they discover the friendship and fellowship there. Marketing to the target demographic is key to growth! https://mcmurrayrotary.com/impact/
