Camp Session Plans Kids Choice Striking & Fielding Games Overall Objectives Outcomes/Success Criteria 1. Make a choice and work as a team to strike and field Equipment: Hockey sticks, tennis rackets, rounders bats, cricket bats and stumps, tennis balls and hockey balls Theme/Focus: Kids Choice Striking & Fielding Games Time 11-11.45 Image/Video link/ Parent Link Set Up: Have different striking and fielding equipment ready for children to choose from How to Play: Start any session with some stretches (dynamic stretches) and focus on main areas used in particular sport- arms & upper body Coach to ask children if they know any different striking and fielding games and coach to give some examples. Coach to explain rules of use of kit at the beginning and corrects any misuse of kit throughout. Depending on the group, coaches and space available this can be children having free choice to take part in different striking and fielding games spread out in the same space OR We suggest striking and fielding games and they vote Suggestions/examples on following pages: - Children can practice tennis SKILLS, make up their own tennis games OR play a game such as scatterball - Children can practice batting and bowling in cricket, play French or kwick cricket OR play a game such as Jiminy s cricket - Children can practice bowling and batting, or play rounders/kick rounders - Children can practice hockey dribbling, shooting, make up their own game or play a game such as number hockey. Finish Any session with a knowledge check, points and Cool Down Stretches Coaching/Teacher Tips/Questioning: Differentiation: In bad weather and in smaller indoor spaces, you may need to play number striking and fielding games such as number hockey. Camp Session Plans- Striking & Fielding Games Overall Objectives Outcomes/Success Criteria 1. Get the most runs/points Equipment: tennis racket, 3 tennis balls, cones, bucket or hoops. Time 11-11.45 Image/Video link/ Parent Link Theme/Focus: Scatterball Set Up: Split children into two teams, a batting team and a fielding team. If you do not have big numbers you can play by each taking it in turns to bat and winning points individually instead of for a team. Batters: Take it in turns to hit 3 balls in succession into the space (if high volume of children just use 2 balls). This can be from the batters holding and hitting the balls or a bowler bowling the balls for the batters to hit. They then run around the bases, trying to make it round all 4 bases before all of the balls get back to the bowling square (this can be in a bucket or in a hoop or on cones) Each base passed counts as 1 point. All players on the batting team have a turn then teams swap positions. Fielders Spread out in the space and are not allowed inside the bases Cannot move until all 3 balls have been hit into the space by the batters Once all three balls have been hit, the Coach will shout go and the fielders who are closest must run to get the balls and place them in bowlers box (on cones or in a bucket) Encourage batters to throw a ball to someone who is closer to the bowlers box. Encourage children to swap positions when fielding. Points: The winning team/individual will be the team at the end with the most runs. Jiminy!!! And we are playing Jiminy s Cricket today! Let s go over the rules! Progressions: Differentiation - Have more than one cricket pitch set up with a larger volume of children - You can add up JIMINY s as a team rather than individually- how many Jiminy s can each team get? The most wins!

Hit a moving ball Get the most runs Equipment: Time 11-11.45 Image/Video link/ Parent Link Theme/Focus: Jiminy s Cricket Set up Split children into equal teams a Batting & fielding Team ( no more than 10 per team where possible) Place a set of stumps and a cone either side (distance depending on the age of children) Place a cone or box of cones for the bowler to stand in. How To Play Throwing & Catching Practice- Have children practice throwing and catching for a few minutes so they can stop other children becoming JIMINY s! JIMINY s CRICKET Children take it in turns to bat with the aim of each child becoming JIMINY! 6 letters in JIMINY so 6 runs and they become a Jiminy Cricket! Once all players have had a turn at batting they swap with the fielding team RULES: - Give children up to 3 bowls to hit the ball. If they choose to run then that is their turn over and the number of runs will be added. - To give everyone a chance at batting, add the rule that they can not get bowled out on their first attempt at batting. - If the ball is caught without bouncing, they are out and their runs do not count. Learn and understand rules of rounders Work as a team Equipment: dome cones, traffic cones, rounders bats, dodgeball/football, .bibs Rounders Time: 11-11.45 Image/Video link/Parent Link Bowlers: Bowl under arm from bowlers box. It must reach the box without it bouncing. It must be bowled no higher than the top of the head and no lower than the knee otherwise. A no ball is called if: the ball does not reach the batters box; if the ball is bowled too wide (outside the batters box); if the ball bounces; if the ball is bowled to the wrong side. Bowler bowls one good ball. If 2 no balls are called half a rounder is awarded to the batting team. Batters: Hold the bat with one hand (younger children can use two) Run with the bat (if you do not have many bats they can drop it) A good ball is bowled, batters must run even if they do not hit it If the ball is hit into the backward area, the batter may not pass first post until the ball is returned to the forward area. A batter that hits a no-ball may not be caught out or stumped at the first post. Batters may run on 'no-balls' but do not have to. Must keep in contact with the post when waiting at a base Outs: A batter is out if a fielder catches the ball before it bounces A fielder touches the post of the base halfway up (or higher) with the ball while the batter is running to it The batter deliberately drops or throws the bat Another batter runs to the same base or overtakes a batter, Fielders: 1 fielder at each base must stand in front of the bases 1 backstop, must stand a meter back from the batting box 1 bowler, must stand inside the bowling box Fielders stand outside of the rounders pitch/bases and must not obstruct batters from running. Points/Rounders: One rounder is gained if the player hits the ball, then reaches the fourth post and touches it before the next ball is bowled and is not caught out and hit by the ball. A half rounder is gained if: the player reaches the fourth post having missed the ball; the player reaches the second post having hit the ball; if a batter is obstructed by a fielder whilst running; or if the same batter has two consecutive no balls. Image result for rounders pitch Coaching/Teacher Tips/Questioning: At camp adapt the rules dependent on the volume of children at cap and the age group. If you have a small volume for children in your group you can give them more chances at trying to bat the ball If you have younger children allow them to use a tennis bat instead.

Score before the other team Wait your turn To react quick;y Equipment: Hockey Sticks, Bench/goal/cones, Ball, Bibs (Football for Number football) Theme/Focus: NUMBER HOCKEY & FOOTBALL Time Image/Video link/ Parent Link 11-11.45am Set up Sit children in pairs- whoever they are paired up with is who they are against Give each pair a number- but one will be number one for the red team for example and one will be number 1 for the green team. Do this for all pairs. Set Up 1- sit them in a line in the correct order Set Up 2- sit them in a zone with their team (to the side or corner of space) Place hockey sticks to the side/behind of each goal if playing hockey Set up 1 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12 12,11,10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1 Or HOW TO PLAY When their number is called they have to run and touch their goal/get a hockey stick. Whoever gets there first will be rolled a hockey ball/football. If both children get to the bench at the same time, the ball can be rolled into the middle. The children then play and whoever scores (by hitting/kicking ball at bench or in goal) wins a point for their team. Once scored, that is their turn over. Give a time limit- if no one scores in that time limit it s a draw. Set up 2 Coaching/Teacher Tips/Questioning: Increase the number of players you call onto the pitch at a time For 3+ children, have each child touch/pass the ball before they can score. Remind children to keep hockey stick below waist If playing football, remind children that they are not allowed to slide tackle and to keep the ball low.
