Explore the profound concept of knowing God as revealed in Acts 17:23-31 and 1 Corinthians 2:8-12. Discover how man's understanding of God is intricately tied to divine revelation and the limitations of human perception. Reflect on the idea that true knowledge of God comes from what He has chosen to disclose about Himself, challenging us to seek deeper spiritual understanding beyond mere observation and intellect.

  1. Acts 17:23-31

  2. Can Man Know God?

  3. Can Man Know Man?

  4. Knowing God Can we know ourselves? We seek to know a person by observing their actions, habits, and behaviors We may even administer an I.Q. test to know a person s intelligence level However all these are subjective and limited to some degree They are subjective because the standard used to make these determinations are those created by other individuals We are limited by what that person may or may not reveal about themselves or the revealed facts surrounding that person

  5. Knowing God A Murderer A soldier? A person defending themselves? A woman who has had an abortion? The prophet Samuel? (1 Sam 15:33) What standard is applied? The question is determined by the definition of a murderer

  6. Knowing God The only way to know anyone is by what they have revealed about themselves! The only way for man to know God is by what He has revealed about Himself (1 Cor 2:8-12)

  7. Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. (1Corinthians 2.8 12 KJV)

  8. Can Man Know God?

  9. Knowing God Men are often told that God nor God s ways can be know that He is a mystery and He works in mysterious ways There is no way for man to know God without God! How has God revealed Himself to man? General: Naturally through creation His glory (Psa 19:1-2) His eternal power & divinity (Rom 1:20-22) His providential care (Matt 5:45-46) General revelation is limited to the external

  10. Knowing God General revelation is not enough (Acts 14:15-17) (Acts 17:22-31) It does not address the soul of man or the purpose of man Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil. (Ecclesiastes 12.13 14 KJV)

  11. Knowing God General revelation is not enough (Acts 14:15-17) (Acts 17:22-31) It does not address the soul of man or the purpose of man But why dost thou judge thy brother? or why dost thou set at nought thy brother? for we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ. (Romans 14.10 KJV) For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it begood or bad. (2Corinthians 5.10 KJV)

  12. Knowing God How has God revealed Himself to man Specific/Special Revelation: Spiritually through Scripture How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him;God also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders, and with divers miracles, and gifts of the Holy Ghost, according to his own will? (Hebrews 2.3 4 KJV) This does not negate the limitations of man. Man is limited in what He can know about God The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law. (Deuteronomy 29.29 KJV)

  13. Knowing God How has God revealed Himself to man Specific/Special Revelation: Spiritually through Scripture In what ways or by what agencies has He revealed Himself through specific revelation Directly (Ex 19:19; Deut 5:4-5; Matt 3:16-17) Through angels (Heb 2:2) Through prophets (Heb 1:1) Through the apostles (Acts 1:2 Cf Jn 17:20) Through selected persons (Jude 3) To everyone through His word [written word] (Jer 36:32; Rom 15:4) Heb 8:10-12 Cf Eph 3:1-4)

  14. Knowing God What do I believe about the Bible? Is it is the word of men? Does it contains the Word Of God? Does it becomes the Word Of God? It is the Word Of God? What Should I believe about the Bible?

  15. Knowing God What do I believe about the Bible? Is it is the word of men? For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe. (1Thessalonians 2.13 KJV)

  16. Knowing God What do I believe about the Bible? Does it contains the Word Of God? And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: (2Timothy 3.15 16 KJV)

  17. Knowing God What do I believe about the Bible? Does it contains the Word Of God? And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you;As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction. (2Peter 3.15 16 KJV)

  18. Knowing God What do I believe about the Bible? Does it becomes the Word Of God? For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. (Hebrews 4.12 KJV)

  19. Can Man Know Gods Will?

  20. Knowing God O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counsellor?Or who hath first given to him, and it shall be recompensed unto him again? For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom beglory for ever. Amen. (Romans 11.33 36 KJV) Now to him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began,But now is made manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations for the obedience of faith: (Romans 16.25 26 KJV)

  21. Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved. In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;Wherein he hath abounded toward us in all wisdom and prudence;Having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself:That in the dispensation of the fulness of times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; evenin him: (Ephesians 1.3 10 KJV)

  22. No Man Can Truly Know God Without Knowing Jesus Christ His Son?

  23. But I have greater witness than that of John: for the works which the Father hath given me to finish, the same works that I do, bear witness of me, that the Fathe (John 5.36 40 KJV)

  24. All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him. (Matthew 11.27 KJV)

  25. Knowing God Jesus has come to reveal God to Us John 1:1-18 All things have been revealed through Him Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ: Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: (2Peter 1.1 3 KJV)

  26. Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ:Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: (2Peter 1.1 3 KJV)

  27. Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ; And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ:To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God,According to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord: (Ephesians 3.8 11 KJV)
