AUSTRALIA AND NEW ZEALAND - GEOGRAPHY 2
AUSTRALIA Australia is located in south-east Asia. The India Ocean is west and south, the Pacific (Coral and Tasmania Seas) is east. Tasmania lies 240 km south. Nearest is Indonesia, Papua New Guinea on north, Solomons, Fiji and New Zealand are on east. Its area is 7,686,848 sq km. 3

The Great Dividing Range along the Eastern cost (The Australian Alps) has the highest Australian mountain Mt. Kosciusko (2,228 m). [2] 5
The Muray River is 2,575 km long, the second largest river is the Darling. There are 3 big lakes here:Lake Eyre, Lake Torrens, Lake Gairdner. [3] 6
The Australian climate varies from warm to subtropical. About 80 % of Australian land suffers from drought, that s why there are many deserts. There are four great deserts in central Australia: the Great Sandy Desert, Gibson Desert, Great Victoria Desert and Simson Desert. 7

NEW ZEALAND New Zealand consists of two large islands (North and South Island) in southwest Pacific Ocean. Nearest countries are Australia on the west and Fiji, Tonga on the north. On both islands there are mostly hills and mountains. 9
