Key Messages Moderators administer the moderation process in-line with the KS2 teacher assessment guidance and following the protocols set out in the Oxfordshire guidance sent to schools. Judgements for each pupil are needed two days in advance of the moderation visit, if schools would like to be informed of the pupils selected for moderation the day before the visit. For moderators to notify schools of the selected pupils, the local agreement must have been signed and returned to SchoolImprovementTeam@oxfordshire.gov.uk Where schools prefer not to send data in advance, moderators will select pupils on arrival. Moderators select a minimum of 5 pupils (or 15% of the cohort in larger schools).
Key Messages continued Moderators will be contacting schools this week to arrange visit dates during June (most visits will take place between 10th and 21st June). If a school has two or fewer classes of Year 6 pupils, allocated half a day. Larger schools allocate a full day. Schools with more than one Year 6 class can decide whether to release all teachers together, or consecutively. Most schools release all teachers together, but we recognise that cover can be difficult. Teachers can have someone else with them if they would like e.g. mentors often support ECTs. For schools not selected for moderation, it is strongly recommended that they use internal or cross-school moderation to ensure judgements are accurate (to avoid maladministration).
Data Processes The Moderation Manager has to check that the data submitted to the DfE reflects the data at the time of moderation. A small number of pupils may be on the cusp and the school needs a couple more pieces of evidence. If this is the case, teachers should ensure that moderators record this on their visit note. Moderators will want to look at the pupils work to check that they agree it is likely that they may move. The STA have stressed that it is maladministration to submit data which differs from that collected during moderation. Moderators will collect two sets of data the data on the day and for the few schools where pupils may move, the data which the moderator has agreed is likely to be submitted by 28th June.
