GENERAL RULES CONDUCT YOURSELF IN A RESPONSIBLE MANNER AT ALL TIMES IN THE LABORATORY FOLLOW ALL WRITTEN AND VERBAL INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY NO STUDENT MAY WORK IN THE LABORATORY WITHOUT THE INSTRUCTOR PRESENT DO NOT TOUCH ANY EQUIPMENT OR CHEMICALS IN THE LAB UNLESS TOLD TO DO SO
GENERAL RULES CONTINUED DO NOT EAT FOOD, DRINK BEVERAGES OR CHEW GUM IN THE LABORATORY PERFORM ONLY THOSE EXPERIMENTS AUTHORIZED BY THE INSTRUCTOR NO HORSEPLAY, PRACTICAL JOKES OR PRANKS IN THE LABORATORY BRING ONLY YOUR LAB INSTRUCTIONS AND NOTEBOOK TO WORKSTATION, LEAVE BACKPACKS, ETC. IN THE CLASSROOM AREA NOTIFY THE INSTRUCTOR IMMEDIATELY OF UNSAFE CONDITIONS
GENERAL RULES CONTINUED DISPOSE OF ALL CHEMICALS PROPERLY: SINKS ARE FOR WATER AND SOLUTIONS DESIGNATED BY THE INSTRUCTOR SOLID CHEMICALS, METALS, MATCHES, FILTER PAPER, ETC. ARE NOT TO BE PLACED IN THE SINKS KEEP HANDS AWAY FROM FACE, EYES, AND MOUTH WHILE USING CHEMICALS WASH YOUR HANDS WITH SOAP AND WATER AFTER PERFORMING EXPERIMENTS
GENERAL RULES CONTINUED CLEAN ALL WORK SURFACES AT THE END OF AN EXPERIMENT DO NOT WANDER AROUND THE ROOM, DISTRACT OTHERS, OR INTERFERE WITH LAB EXPERIMENTS OF OTHERS STUDENTS ARE NOT PERMITTED IN THE SCIENCE STORAGE ROOMS UNLESS GIVEN SPECIFIC PERMISSION BY THE INSTRUCTOR
CLOTHING RULES WEAR GOGGLES WHEN USING CHEMICALS, HEAT, OR GLASSWARE LONG HAIR, DANGLING JEWELRY, AND BAGGY CLOTHING ARE HAZARDOUS IN THE LAB
ACCIDENTS AND INJURIES REPORT ANY ACCIDENT OR INJURY TO YOUR INSTRUCTOR IMMEDIATELY IF A CHEMICAL SPLASHES IN YOUR EYE OR SKIN, FLUSH WITH RUNNING WATER FROM EYEWASH/SAFETY SHOWER FOR 20 MINUTES
HANDLING CHEMICALS DO NOT TOUCH, TASTE, OR SMELL ANY CHEMICAL UNLESS TOLD TO DO SO (WAFTING TECHNIQUE) NEVER RETURN UNUSED CHEMICALS TO THEIR ORIGINAL CONTAINERS ALWAYS ADD ACID TO WATER NEVER WATER TO ACID (ADD ACID) NEVER REMOVE CHEMICALS FROM THE LAB
HANDLING GLASSWARE AND EQUIPMENT NEVER HANDLE BROKEN GLASS WITH YOUR BARE HANDS, USE THE BRUSH AND DUSTPAN NEVER USE CHIPPED OR CRACKED GLASSWARE DO NOT IMMERSE HOT GLASSWARE IN COLD WATER, IT MAY SHATTER
HEATING SUBSTANCES KEEP HAIR, CLOTHING, AND HANDS AT A SAFE DISTANCE FROM FLAMES AT ALL TIMES NEVER LEAVE A LIT BURNER UNATTENDED HEATED GLASS AND METALS SHOULD BE PICKED UP WITH HEAT- PROTECTIVE GLOVES DETERMINE IF AN OBJECT IS HOT BY BRINGING THE BACK OFYOUR HAND CLOSE TO IT BEFORE GRASPING
SAFETY CONTRACT INSTRUCTIONS ANSWER QUESTIONS PORTION OF CONTRACT PRINT NAME UNDER AGREEMENT SIGN AND DATE UNDER AGREEMENT PARAGRAPH TAKE HOME TO PARENTS FOR THEM TO SIGN AND DATE BRING BACK TO CLASS BY FRIDAY YOU WILL NOT PARTICIPATE IN LAB WITHOUT A SIGNED CONTRACT
