  1. Latin for 3rdForm and GCSE

  2. Anyone can study Latin. Not just the smartest pupils. Not just the linguists. For the mathematical, and the historical, and the poetical, and the curious.

  3. What do we learn in Latin GCSE? Reading Latin Writing Latin Roman authors and poets Roman and Greek myths and history

  4. Do we have to do speaking and listening? No. Latin has no speaking or listening exams. Instead we study Latin literature and admire the skill of the Roman authors.

  5. What will we do on the course? We develop and expand your knowledge of the way the language works through reading Latin stories and even writing some basic Latin. We enjoy some real Latin mythological and historical texts from authors like Virgil, Tacitus, Ovid and Horace. We go on trips and visits. As part of the course you will get the opportunity to go to Rome and the Bay of Naples. We also go to visit Hadrian s Wall and Bath.

  6. Why study the Latin language? -The source of languages like French, Spanish and Italian -Supports English grammar -A fun and challenging puzzle -Helps with other subjects like English, Maths, History or MFL -Makes you a better reader, and a better writer -It s highly valued as a discipline amongst Universities and employers -It gives you an extra string to your bow that many students won t have.

  7. Why study the Romans? Latin lets us compare our world today with a different culture, from 2000 years ago. We learn about another people and their beliefs and practices as well as their language. So much of our modern world is derived from the Roman world, not just our roads and buildings but much of our literature and legal system too. Studying the Romans helps us to understand more about ourselves.
