  1. Leadership activity (prepared by CRES) Guidelines for students - Example

  2. Goal: This activity will help you: realize which are the most essential skills that a leader should possess Enhance your leadership skills through a role-playing game. A leader is supposed to have a big influence and show / prove a definite responsibility towards his/her team. So, some of the aspects a leader should pay attention to are: Setting the climate of the team Inspiring the team members Setting the necessary (ethic) values for the team Improving team spirit and cohesion Being responsible for the team s communication/wellbeing (for the optimum results and team efficiency)

  3. Description: In this activity you will divided into 5 mixed groups (different than the ones you worked for your projects), and then each one of the groups will be invited to confront a survival situation. The following cases of survival situations will be randomly chosen: a plane crash a shipwreck lost in the desert an earthquake trapped or buried in the snow (avalanche) The target of the activity will be for each group to select the 4 most crucial items/tools (out of a pool of items) to overcome the situation and argument /justify why the specific items were selected, and present how these would be used for survival purposes. You will have 10 min/group to present your results to the other teams and 25min/ group to prepare your argumentation and results presentation.

  4. Instructions: 1. After the activity is presented to you, you will be send a google link which will lead you to a folder named Leadership activity . There, each group will only have access to one folder named case 1 , or case 2 , etc, until case 5 . 2. Each one of these folders corresponds to each one of the survival situations, but they are unnamed so that the assignment of the case is done in random. 3. The folders 1 to 5 will be in a Google Drive folder and each folder will contain: A description of the situation (a ppt slide) A ppt file containing a number of pictures illustrating the items, out of which the each team will select 4 A short description of the steps the students must follow (a ppt slide) (the ppt file you are reading now!!)

  6. 4. Now you have 5 minutes to select the 4 items. 5. After you finish picking your items, you are given a rational time to: Discuss with your mates in order to justify with the best possible arguments the selection and use of the tools to overcome the difficult situation you are facing. Pay attention!! The following aspects must be addressed: Short description of the situation you face Which items tools you chose and why How you used these items to go through surviving Lessons learnt / were these as effective as expected? If not, why? 6. Prepare a presentation of the above (25 minutes) 7. Make a short presentation of the previously mentioned issues/decisions to the other teams (10 minutes)

  8. Form B: You will use this slide to write down notes on your argumentation, ideas, lessons learnt etc ..This slide will not be presented , it is for your own use! e.g. Utility of item 1 . We decided to use it in order to . It is most important because it will help us do this or that .. It can be used as a weapon, or a mirror or to light a fire .ect ..

  9. Form C: You will use the 2 slides of Form C to write your short presentation (be careful to include all issues requested as described in the guidelines- slide 5) You could divide the different topics among you and then combine the results. The presentation doesn t have to be long, just clear and explanatory, based on strong and logical arguments!
